Brattleboro’s public works department says Installation of the new 12-inch water main along Brattleboro’s Main street will be completed by Friday, April 26th.. Remaining work will involve the connection of existing service lines, to the new main. . Connection will result in water service interruptions in the area of the project .The service connections will occur between the hours of 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. Water service interruptions should be expected during this time.

Water Main flushing begins in Brattleboro tonight, and will continue through May 11. Flushing will be done around town during both day and nighttime hours. The City of Keene Public Works Department will begin its annual spring water main flushing program on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 10:00 PM.  Work will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM .

 

Vermont’s Department of Public Safety will partner with Williston company Margolis Healy, to provide school safety planning, training and exercise assistance to Vermont schools.  The company will ill provide training and exercise guidance directly to schools and work with school administrators and public safety personnel to develop a standardized Emergency Operation Plan . Funding for the contract  comes from the Homeland Security Grant Program, building on last year’s $4 million state allocation for school building upgrades.

 

With a 28 – 1 vote, the Vermont Senate advanced Proposition 2, , a Constitutional Amendment that would remove the references to slavery currently in the Vermont Constitution. Lieutenant Governor  David Zuckerman says Proposition two ensures the Constitution is updated by clarifying its language to clearly state slavery, in all its forms, is prohibited. He says the move is important  to ensure all Vermonters are protected now and into the future. The proposition now moves to the Vermont House for consideration. A Constitutional amendment must pass both the Senate and House in two different Biennium and then must be supported by a majority vote of Vermonters in the November 2022 General Election to successfully amend the Constitution.

 

Vermont’s chapter of the American Cancer Society is urging Governor Phil Scott to sign a bill raising the age for smoking from 18 to 21.  The Vermont House gave final approval to it’s own version of a Senate passed bill Wednesday. The Cancer society is also asking Vermont legislators to pass two other bills, one that  would prohibit the online sale of e-cigarettes to anyone other than licensed dealers, and  a tax on e-cigarettes that is on par with traditional tobacco.

 

The Vermont Secretary of State’s Office of Professional Regulation  filed proposed rules to reform licensing requirements for funeral directors, barbers, cosmetologists and nail technicians, this month. These reforms fall under the scope of a Federal Department of Labor grant awarded to OPR last year and are part of a broader effort to update existing licensing regulations to better reflect the needs of Vermont professionals, consumers, and businesses.  Public hearings are scheduled to be held at OPR’s 89 Main Street, 3rdFloor location in Montpelier on May 30th at 1:00 pm for the funeral director rule and June 3rd at 1:00 pm for barbers and cosmetologists. Comments can be submitted to opr.comment@sec.state.vt.us.
