One person is in custody in Vermont after a shooting incident
following an alleged assault on a U.S. Marshal, the FBI said Thursday.
Few details were available on the incident which officials say began
with a pursuit by law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service in
New Hampshire. The chase ended on U.S. Route 5 in Ryegate around
1:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities did not release the name of the
person arrested or say whether anyone was injured. In a statement,
the FBI said agents would remain in the area to process the scene,
along with the Vermont State Police. There is no threat to the general
public, the FBI said.
Saturday and Sunday make up youth and novice deer weekend in
Vermont. Anyone 15 or younger who has taken a hunter education
course and purchased a hunting license can pick up a free youth
weekend deer tag and hit the woods. Youth hunters must have an
unarmed adult with a hunting license accompany them. If you do bag
a buck this weekend, Vermont Fish and Wildlife asks you to stop by a
biological reporting station so they can gather data on Vermont’s deer
Population. https://vtfishandwildlife.com/hunt/youth-hunting/youth-deer-weekend
A truck carrying 35,000 pounds of cheese crashed Thursday morning,
shutting down a highway for more than nine hours. Police say it
happened just after 8:15 a.m. near Route 302 and the Berlin State
Highway. The crash prompted the closure of Route 302 while crews
worked to clean up the scene and repair damaged power lines. Only
minor injuries were reported, and the crash is still under
investigation.
Crews will begin to install the traffic signals needed for the Brattleboro Hinsdale Bridge project beginning Monday, October 28th. Sign crews will begin placing signs for the new bridge next week as well. The signs will be covered until the bridge is ready to open. The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. Unanticipated delays at a couple of the piers have adjusted the project completion date from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.
