Vermont Senator Peter Welch aims to allocate Farm Bill funding to assist those affected by flooding and natural disasters. Welch’s subcommittee introduced the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act, which includes various proposals such as aid for flood-affected farmers and water testing technology in rural areas. The bill also focuses on expanding rural development, boosting clean energy production, enhancing nutrition access, supporting small farms, and strengthening local food systems.

Vermont Route 121 is currently inaccessible and will continue to be so until 3:00p.m. on May 15th. The alternative route will involve using Back Westminster Road, the I-91 Access Road, and U.S. Route 5. This road closure is essential for the installation of steel girders in the northbound direction. Traffic heading north on the Interstate has been redirected to the southbound lane. Only the right-hand lane is available for southbound traffic on I-91 South. A speed limit of 55 mph is enforced on I-91 in the construction zone, with fines doubled for speeding violations.

The sale of “Vermont Strong” license plates raised over $1 million for flood recovery. Gov. Phil Scott revived the plates after last summer’s floods, partnering with Darn Tough to create license plate and sock bundles. A report to the Vermont Legislature reveals that the initiative generated approximately $1.2 million, which will be used for production costs and divided between the Business Emergency Gap Assistance Program and the Vermont Community Foundation.

After an intense debate lasting almost two years, regulations governing wake boats on Vermont water bodies have finally been implemented. The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the new regulations came into effect on April 15. These regulations confine wakesport activities to areas that are a minimum of 50 acres in size, with a depth exceeding 20 feet, a width of at least 200 feet, and a distance of over 500 feet from the shore. This effectively allows wakesport activities on 30 of the state’s inland lakes. The primary objective of these regulations is to safeguard shoreline ecosystems and ensure that non-motorized users are not disturbed.
