A Vermont man, Lamar Carter, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Carter pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess a controlled substance. He was the leader of a drug distribution organization that obtained powder cocaine from New Jersey, converted it into crack, and distributed it in and around Keene. College students in Vermont are protesting their schools’ connections to Israel by setting up encampments and presenting a list of demands to administrators. This protest, which includes students from the University of Vermont and Middlebury College, is in solidarity with Gaza and is similar to protests happening on other college campuses nationwide.

Despite a tough sugaring season, the 57th annual Vermont Maple Festival was filled with enthusiasm. The three-day event showcased maple products, crafts, and entertainment, including a Sap Run and a Sunday parade on St. Albans’ Main Street. A significant number of sugarers have sought assistance from the state, with over 350 producers applying for maple grants in November. However, only 11 received aid, totaling approximately $540,000. This highlights the need for increased state support, as stated by the sugarers.

Two candidates have declared their bids for the state Senate following the retirement of Bobby Starr, a long-serving Vermont politician.
