Vermont legislators listened to public opinion on Tuesday evening regarding a proposed constitutional amendment that aims to protect the right to establish unions in the state. Proposal 3 seeks to safeguard the existing labor rights of Vermont residents from being revoked through future political actions, while also granting workers in the Green Mountain State the freedom to decide whether or not to form a union. The Senate has already approved Proposal 3 with a unanimous tri-partisan vote of 29-0-1, and it is currently under consideration in the House. Achieving a constitutional amendment is a challenging process, as it requires approval from two separate Legislatures and also necessitates the consent of Vermont voters.

James Parker, who was involved in the 2001 stabbing deaths of two Dartmouth College professors, is up for parole after serving over half of his 25-years-to-life sentence. He was part of a conspiracy with his best friend that led to the deaths of Half and Susanne Zantop in Hanover, New Hampshire. Now almost 40, Parker will have his first chance at parole during a state parole board hearing this Thursday.

New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan expressed concerns over USPS consolidating mail processing facilities in New Hampshire and Vermont. She mentioned that moving the Manchester processing facility to Boston could worsen mail service problems, potentially leading to job losses for postal workers, delays in absentee ballot delivery, and limited access to medications. Specifically, she highlighted the impact on the White River Junction processing facility, which USPS plans to relocate 150 miles away to Hartford, Connecticut. Hassan emphasized the importance of keeping local employees involved due to their knowledge of the communities they serve.
