Vermont Congresswoman Becca Balint has joined a handful of other Congressional Democrats in calling for New York Congressman George Santos to be kicked out of Congress. The Congressional Democrats announced that they will introduce a resolution which would formally expel George Santos from Congress. Balint, in a social media post, said we have to be able on some level, to trust our elected officials. and clearly, we as colleagues to George Santos cannot trust anything that he says because he has no track record of being honest. Santos has already removed himself from any committees, but the group says that isn’t enough; they want him gone.

Vermonters gathered at the statehouse this past weekend to voice their concerns about climate change. Saturday’s rally was hosted by 350-vermont and was joined by thirty other groups with similar worries and demands. Renewable energy and equitable distribution of that energy to all Vermonters was the top priority of the day. Those in attendance at the rally expressed their objections to current energy consumption methods and promoted some currently being reviewed as potential replacements. Rally speakers included representatives of indigenous peoples, youth groups, solar energy and agriculture, along with a recent climate refugee who relocated to Vermont.

A Vermont senate committee continues to work on a housing bill. The economic development, housing and general affairs committee is considering  allowing a developer to build 20 dwelling units within five years and five miles of each other before Act 250 jurisdiction kicked in; The bill, would eliminate that time and distance jurisdictional threshold if a developer was building in a designated neighborhood development area; and would eliminate Act 250 jurisdiction based on the number of units that could be built as part of a “priority housing project” in a municipality with a population below 10,000. A public hearing is planned for Thursday.

Vermont senator Bernie Sanders will hold a livestreamed town hall entitled “Respecting Our Teachers: A Town Hall on the Teacher Pay Crisis in America.” Sanders says congress must stand up and support teachers – and that begins with paying them as the professionals they are. The senator will be joined LIVE in D.C. by Springfield’s Alison Sylvester. She has been a public-school teacher for over 20 years and she was named the 2020 K-5 Teacher of the Year by the Vermont Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Work continues on the southbound Interstate 91 bridge over route 121 in Westminster. Pier cap demolition/removal of Piers 3 and 4 on the Southbound bridge will continue. This week, the contractor will begin installing a work platform on top of Pier 3. The work platform will allow the contractor to weatherize the work area and complete all necessary tasks associated with the new concrete pier caps.  Once demolition has been completed, crews will begin form work for new concrete.

Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the Chiefs to a last second win over Philadelphia in Super Bowl 57, 38-35. Mahomes threw for three touchdowns in the win.

The Celtics, led by Derrick White’s 23 points, went on to beat Memphis on Sunday, 119-109. Boston visits Milwaukee on Tuesday.

Locally, on Saturday, as heard on 99 5 The Beast, in Girls Basketball, St. Johnsbury beat Brattleboro, 62-42.
