Contested primaries, both statewide and locally, highlight the Vermont primary election today. There are contested primaries for both Congress and U S Senate topping the statewide ticket, while there are state senate primaries in Windham County for both republicans and democrats. Brattleboro voters can cast their ballots at the American legion on Linden Street. If you received an early ballot, you must return it to your town’s polling place by 7 P M in order to be counted.

The Vermont State Police is investigating a suspicious death that was reported Monday evening in Wardsboro. The investigation began at about 6:30 p.m. when police received a call reporting a deceased individual had been located on a logging road east of the intersection of Newfane Road and Wacker Road in Wardsboro. Police responded and located the body of an adult woman at the scene. One person has been detained in connection with this investigation and is considered a person of interest. 

New Hampshire’s attorney general’s office will be keeping a closer watch on elections this fall after a review of 188 uncast absentee ballots in Bedford during the 2020 general election, Election officials discovered the ballots f prior to opening of the polling place for the Special Election on September 7, 2021. The A G’s office says the November 2020 General Election returns from Bedford had significant deficiencies. The Secretary of State, in consultation with the Attorney General, will be appointing an election monitor for the next election, the September 13, 2022, primary election.  

Vermont gasoline prices fell another 6 cents last week to an average of $4.41 per gallon According to GasBuddy, Prices have fallen 36 cents in the last month but are $1.34 a gallon higher than one year ago. Prices are falling nationally faster than in Vermont. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 15.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.01/g today.

A group of Monadnock region towns are getting a federal grant to address potentially contaminated industrial sites. Southwest Region Planning Commission will receive a $500,000 assessment grant to address sites in Keene, Swanzey, Winchester, Hinsdale, and the other communities they serve in the southwestern part of the state. PA’s Brownfields cleanup grants provide funding to carry out cleanup activities at a specific site owned by the recipient. Through these grants, EPA readies sites for redevelopment, leveraging jobs and other investment in the process as the sites get revitalized.

Police are investigating the death of a Dartmouth graduate in town for his commencement. They are not naming the man but say he was found early Sunday morning on the rocky embankment under the Ledyard Bridge in Hanover. They reached him by boat, then took him to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where he died. Police say the man was 24 and was in town with his family for the class of 2020 commencement.
