Another record for new covid 19 cases in Vermont. The state health department reported 1,727 new positive covid tests on Tuesday, with 26 new covid positive cases in Windham County. New Hampshire’s Health and Human Service department says there were 27 deaths from covid 19 along with 1,093 new positive tests. Two deaths and 22 new covid positive results were in Cheshire County., In Massachusetts, 94 deaths and 16,671 new covid 19 cases. There was one death and 98 new covid cases in Franklin County

The Vermont Legislature appears to be moving quickly toward giving towns the ability to again move the date of their town meeting. The Senate Government operations committee approved sending the bill to the senate floor. Lawmakers from both chambers want a bill to be on the Governor’s desk and signed by the end of next week.

New Hampshire state police continue to investigate a Saturday shooting in the town of Sullivan. Late Saturday afternoon, troopers responded to a reported domestic violence incident in progress at a residence on Valley Road. Upon arrival, troopers determined that three adult family members were involved in the disturbance and that one of them had sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. The gunshot victim was transported to Cheshire Medical Center (and ultimately Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center) for treatment. The incident remains under investigation and charges may be forthcoming.

Southeast Vermont Transit is surveying riders and non-riders in the Brattleboro area during the month of January. The survey asks a few questions ranging from how to contact riders to any changes/improvements they would like to see. The rider surveys are handed out during the month of January on the Red, White, and Blue Line buses.

Brattleboro dog and wolf-hybrid licenses are now available for the 2022 licensing period.  Vermont dogs and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older must be licensed on or before April 1. Renewal licenses may be obtained in person at the Town Clerk’s office, by using the drop box in the Municipal Center parking lot, through the mail or online at www.brattleboro.org. Dogs being licensed in Brattleboro for the first time may be licensed in person, by using the drop box, or through the mail by printing the license form from the website.

Vermont state Rep. Charlie Kimbell, a Democrat from Woodstock, has announced that he’s running for lieutenant governor. He is the first candidate to announce a bid to succeed Lt. Gov. Molly Gray, who is running for Vermont’s lone U.S. House seat. Current U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., is running for the U.S. Senate to replace Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who is retiring and will not seek reelection in November.
