There was one death and 12 covid 19 cases in Vermont reported Friday, with one new case in Windham County. In New Hampshire, there was one death and 61 new Covid cases, with 3 new positive tests in Cheshire County. The state of Massachusetts reported 7 deaths and 241 new cases of the covid virus, including 2 covid cases in Franklin County.

Brattleboro Town Manager Peter Elwell says the public may now enter the Gibson Aiken Center without an appointment. The number of spectators is still limited for indoor programs. Masks are still required at all times while in the building.  At this time, masks are still required inside all Town of Brattleboro government facilities

Governor Phil Scott says dozens of new walk-in clinics have been scheduled, as the State works to make the COVID-19 vaccine easily accessible throughout Vermont. Governor Scott previously announced that when 80% of Vermont’s eligible population (those age 12 and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the state will enter Step 4 of the Vermont Forward plan, eliminating the  remaining restrictions. As of Thursday, it was at 78.6% of eligible Vermonters, needing 7,878 more people to reach the goal. Clinics are being held tomorrow and Sunday at the Wilmington Flea Market.

Vermont is preparing for scorching temperatures over the weekend in the mid-90s that health officials are concerned could catch some people off guard. Many Vermonters will be taking refuge indoors in the AC, but also in lakes and rivers. Vermont health officials are also taking note of the heat by standing up a slew of vaccination clinics at strategic locations, including Lake Seymour, Lake Willoughby, and near the Bolton potholes. “Vermonters would literally find it impossible to not find a place to get vaccinated,” said Vt. Health Commissioner Dr. Mark Levine. He also recommends Vermonters stay hydrated by drinking water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Also, recognize the symptoms of overheating, including cramps, nausea, and headaches.

40 -year old, Ferdinand Cruz, aka “Feldi,” of Bellows Falls, was sentenced in United States District Court in Burlington, to serve 15 months in prison after his guilty plea to one count of being a previously convicted felon found in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss also ordered Cruz to serve a year term of supervised release and to pay a $100 special assessment. Judge Reiss also ordered the criminal forfeiture of two firearms that were found in Cruz’s possession. arms that were found in Cruz’s possession. The conviction was the result of an investigation by Dover Police.

Vermont State Police have ended their search for a missing Ludlow man. Police say they have found the body of 76-year-old Russell Nord, Friday afternoon in a wooded area off East Hill Road in Ludlow, almost two miles away from his home. The Ludlow Police Department are conducting an investigation into his death, but don’t believe it was suspicious. The Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team was assisted by the Ludlow Police Department, Ludlow Fire Department,  Proctorsville Fire Department, New England K9 Search and Rescue, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, Killington Search and Rescue, the Vermont Air National Guard, Rescue Inc and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Warden Service.

Jay Peak Receiver, Michael Goldberg has  reached a $32.5 million settlement with Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP, generally known as MSK, for its role in providing legal advice to Ariel Quiros and the EB-5 projects in the Northeast Kingdom. Resort-owner Quiros and co-conspirator William Kelly have pleaded guilty to defrauding immigrant investors in one aspect of the broad, $200 million alleged “Ponzi-like” scheme centered on Jay Peak Resort. They await sentencing. Former Jay Peak President Bill Stenger has vociferously claimed his innocence and is expected to go to trial later this year. A fourth person indicted, Alex Choi, is still at large.

Locally, as heard on 99 5 The Beast yesterday, in Boy’s High School Baseball play-off action, Brattleboro beat Colchester, 3-2. Brandon Weeks had a big rbi double that proved to be the game-winner. Brattleboro will face Essex in Essex on Tuesday in the semi-final game, first pitch is at 4:30.

Rafael Devers had a 3-run homer in the first, and the Red Sox cruised to a 5-2 win over the Yankees in ‘Bronx last night. The teams play again tonight, first pitch is at 7:15.
