75 new Covid 19 cases were reported in Vermont Friday, including 10 new positive tests in Windham county. 213 new Covid 19 cases were reported in New Hampshire, including 10 in Cheshire county. Massachusetts reported 5 deaths and 881 new cases of covid, including 6 positive tests in Franklin County.

Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine, says as Vermont prepares for the Pfizer vaccine to be approved by the FDA for 12 to 15-year-olds, parents can also get ready to make appointments for children soon. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is meeting next Wednesday to consider approval and make its recommendations for this age, Human Services Secretary Mike Smith said the state will offer school-based sites to make it more convenient for students, and all of these sites will be open to the public.

The Town of Brattleboro has announced Brooks Memorial Library will no longer require appointments and is allowing the public to make unscheduled visits. Each visiting individual is limited to 20 minutes in the library and occupant capacity has been reduced in accordance with public health recommendations. The State of Vermont’s universal guidance protocols will be in place for all staff and visitors. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has announced legislation to expand on the success of the universal free lunch approach recently extended by the USDA, and bring long-term relief to millions of food-insecure families. The Universal School Meals Program Act of 2021 would permanently provide free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack to all school children regardless of income, eliminate school meal debt, and strengthen local economies by incentivizing local food procurement. The USDA estimates that 12 million children in the United States lived in food insecure homes at the height of the pandemic. 

Governor Phil Scott has appointed Riley Allen of Montpelier to serve as a member of the Public Utilities Commission.  Allen has served as deputy commissioner of the Department of Public Service since 2017. From 2004-2008, he served as director for regulated utility planning. From 2008-2010 he served as a hearing officer and senior policy advisor to the Public Service Board. Allen worked on energy, telecommunications, and environmental issues for more than three decades in the U.S. and overseas. 

The City Council in Keene unanimously approved the City’s Community Power plan, making Keene the first in the State to achieve the final step in local approval. The City took its first step towards launching a Community Power program in June 2020, when the City Council approved the formation of a Community Power Committee. In the 11 months since that time, the committee worked with City staff to hire energy consulting team Good Energy and Standard Power to help create and launch a Community Power program, develop the program plan based on input from Keene residents and businesses, and secure approval for the plan through both the CPC and the full City Council.

Professionally last night, Bobby Dalbec broke an 0-27 slump with a single and a 3-run homer in leading the Red Sox past the Orioles in a late Friday night game, 6-2. The teams play again tonight, first pitch is at 7:05. The Nationals had a 6-run eighth inning in their 11-4 win over the Yankees last night. The Yankees had 3 errors in that 8th inning. The teams play again this afternoon, first pitch is at 1:10.

The Celtics stumbled again last night. Chicago thumping the C’s, 121-99. The C’s were playing without Jaylen Brown.

The Bruins take on the Rangers today, puck drops at 3pm.
