9 new Covid 19 cases were reported in Vermont Monday, and the statewide total is now at 1,946 with 58 deaths. Windham County remains at 136 cases and 3 deaths.

57 new positive test results for COVID-19 and one new death, in New Hampshire. The state totals are at 9,746 cases and 468 dead. There were 2 new [positive tests in Cheshire county for a total of 174 with 3 dead.

827 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts, bringing the total number of confirmed cases statewide to 141,474. There are 15 new deaths reported for a total of 9,532 . There was one new positive test in Franklin county, for a total of 438 with 72 deaths.

The Brattleboro Winter Farmers market opens next month and will be one of the few winter markets to open. This year, with health concerns related to COVID19, the market will serve as a critical outlet for local producers that is at the heart of every farmers market, in a “Shop ‘n Go” mode, limiting the number of customers in the space at one time, and encouraging customers to move through the market, make their purchases and move on so others can do the same.  They will also be offering a new curbside pick-up option. The Winter Market opens at 80 Flat Street November 7.

A federal judge has ruled in favor of the lawsuit filed earlier this year by Attorney General T.J. Donovan to protect food assistance. In January, Donovan joined a coalition of 15 attorneys general and New York City in filing a lawsuit to stop the Trump Administration from eliminating food assistance for nearly 700,000 Americans, including more than 200 Vermont households as of January 2020. The lawsuit challenged a U.S. Department of Agriculture rule that would limit states’ ability to extend benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program known in Vermont as 3SquaresVT, beyond a three-month period for certain adults

Brattleboro select board members tonight will consider whether to hold a first reading on a proposed Ordinance amendment that would limit the amount of up-front payments required from tenants to occupy a rental housing unit. The Board will also be   asked to accept and appropriate the sum of $450,000 from the Vermont Community Development Program for Groundworks Collaborative’s South Main Street Project, the meeting takes place at 6:15 via zoom.

Vermont Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders are calling for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to release of money for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program   swiftly and at the highest level possible funding level.  The senators say LIHEAP funding is a crucial lifeline that assists low-income households and seniors on fixed incomes pay their energy bills and stay safe during the winter.  Under a continuing Appropriations Committee resolution, the feds typically release 90 percent of the $3.7 billion full-year appropriation.

The Vermont Economic Development Authority has made $5.9 million in approved financing for Vermont businesses and farms during the past 3 months. VEDA also approved an additional $641,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for 44 Vermont businesses and farms during the quarter before the program ended on August 8. VEDA has been helping Vermont businesses and farmers obtain grants from Vermont’s share of the Federal Coronavirus Relief Fund, plus hundreds of grants for businesses, agricultural and forestry enterprises.

In Monday Night Football: In the early game, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs beat the Bills 26-17, and Kyler Murray threw for 2 td’s and ran for another as the Cardinals routed the Cowboys, 38-10 in the second game.
