A man was hospitalized after being hit by a train in Brattleboro Friday night. Just before 7 P M Friday, police responded to Justin Holden Drive where they discovered James Dyer Jr. lying in the area with serious injuries. interviews with railroad personnel and others at the scene confirmed that Dyer had been struck by a train. Dyer was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and from there transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Dartmouth NH for further treatment.
A Dummerston woman was taken to the hospital after a Friday accident on Route 5. Vermont State police say 79-year old Sally Perry was traveling south on Route 5 approaching the intersection with Dummerston Station Road. The driver entered a moderate curve to the left, fell asleep while driving and was unable to navigate through the curve. Perry went off the roadway, struck a mailbox, and struck two large trees along the side of the roadway. The crash with the second tree caused her vehicle to rotate clockwise, overturn and come to rest on its roof. Perry was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Brattleboro and Dummerston Fire Departments and transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Efficiency Vermont is seeking partners for it’s annual Button Up Vermont Campaign. The community-based, campaign is designed to help Vermonters reduce their heating and cooling costs. Soldiers and Airmen of the Vermont National are traveling to Senegal for two weeks to take part in a medical exercise. Fifteen medical professionals with the Vermont National Guard, to include providers, public health nurses, combat medics, bio-medical technicians and command and control staff, will travel to Kolda, Senegal. They will work with the Senegalese military medical and dental clinics, and civilian regional clinic and hospital.
Vermont Community Media Centers and their supporters are mobilizing with media centers and municipalities across the country to fight a Federal Communications Commission vote that could undermine the ability of states and municipalities to set the rules for cable operators. The FCC voted 3-2 on August 1 to limit the benefits that communities can get in return for the corporate use of public property and rights-of-way .The Vermont Access Network is participating in the Study Committee with Vermont Legislators to look into ways to keep the state’s community media centers, and the services they provide to the community, sustainable. The Study Committee will hold a public hearing on October 16 at 10am in Montpelier.

As heard on our sister station, 99 5 The Beast last night, in Boys Varsity High School Football action, Brattleboro improves to 3 and o on the year with a convincing 34-0 win over previously unbeaten U-32. Tyler Millerick had scoring runs of 11, 32 and 41 yard plus a 37-yard td pass to Aaron Petrie. Chris Frost had 167 yards rushing.
