This law was activated around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday November 11th. Additional information about the law, and regulations can be found here.
Walgreens will pay the state of Vermont $500,000 to resolve allegations that the retailer overcharged customers, despite being instructed by state inspectors to rectify pricing discrepancies. According to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, state inspectors identified 416 overcharging incidents across 60 different Walgreens and Rite Aid locations—acquired by Walgreens—between 2018 and 2024. The prices charged at the register were higher than the shelf prices by amounts ranging from $0.04 to $23.40 per item, with a median overcharge of $1.92. To address violations of Vermont’s Consumer Protection Act, Walgreens has agreed to comply with its pricing policies and procedures and to pay the $500,000 settlement, of which $25,000 will be allocated to the Community Health Center of Burlington.
