Police report the apprehension of an individual who leaped into the Connecticut River in an attempt to evade law enforcement. State police were summoned to Route 5 in Newbury shortly after noon on Sunday following a report of a wanted fugitive in the vicinity, identified as Jamie Woodman, 45 years old. Upon sighting Woodman on the riverbank, troopers state that he jumped into the water to escape. They further indicate that he swam across the river, which separates Vermont and New Hampshire, for several hours before he was ultimately captured. New Hampshire officials managed to arrest Woodman by deploying a boat.
Two individuals sought for attempted murder in Vermont were apprehended in Massachusetts on Monday. As reported by the Vermont State Police, Justin French, 36, and Kayla Cabey, 33, both residents of Bradford, were implicated in a road rage incident in which a firearm was discharged. This event occurred on September 20 at approximately 5 p.m. on U.S. Route 302 in South Ryegate. On Monday, law enforcement officials announced that French and Cabey were taken into custody in Massachusetts. No additional details were provided. French and Cabey are facing charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal threatening.
A second driver involved in a crash in Winhall on Friday has reportedly passed away. That incident on Vermont Route 30 and 11, near the intersection of Snowflake Lane, resulted in the death of Helen Morin, 66, from California, who was operating a Sprinter van. According to a GoFundMe page established for the other driver, Kevin McDonald, it has now been confirmed that McDonald, 52, from South Londonderry, has also succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities did not disclose who was responsible for the head-on collision. Four additional passengers in the Sprinter van sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, including a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old.

A fisherman from Vermont has unofficially set a record for the largest small mouth bass ever caught in the state. According to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Andrew Oestringer recently landed a small mouth bass from Lower Symes Pond in Ryegate that could potentially be the largest on record. When weighed on his home scale, the bass registered at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, which is a full 10 ounces heavier than the existing state record for small mouth bass. Oestringer caught the fish while fishing from a kayak in the small pond.
