The Town of Brattleboro has issued an update regarding the ongoing project for the retaining wall on Williams Street. As construction progresses, the traffic patterns in the affected area will continue to be modified for the entire duration of the work. The western spur of Williams Street and Western Avenue will remain closed. The eastern spur of Williams Street and Western Avenue has been changed to one-way traffic, permitting vehicles to exit solely onto Western Avenue. Residents are required to access the eastern side of Williams Street via Union Hill. These modifications will remain in place throughout the project’s duration, which is anticipated to be completed later this year.

A man from Massachusetts was sentenced on Tuesday in federal court for firearms trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm, as announced by U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan. Gicliff Rodriguez, 24, received a sentence of 63 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Steven J. McAuliffe. In May 2025, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to firearms trafficking and possession of firearms by a prohibited individual. On June 30, 2025, his co-defendant, Rachael Cummings, was sentenced to 12 months of probation. “Federal law is clear: if you are barred from possessing a firearm, you cannot circumvent that prohibition by having another person purchase one on your behalf,” stated U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan. “This defendant’s conduct endangered the public, and we will persist in prosecuting those who seek to evade the law at the cost of public safety.”]}

Health authorities have verified the initial instance of Jamestown Canyon virus in an individual residing in Vermont. This virus is transmitted to humans via the bite of an infected mosquito. Although the majority of individuals remain asymptomatic, some may experience flu-like symptoms or more serious health issues. The confirmation of this case occurred on September 8, involving a resident of Windsor County, as determined through laboratory analysis and notification by their healthcare provider.

In September, the American Red Cross emphasized that donating blood now aids patients in urgent need of medical care. All donors, particularly those with O positive and B negative blood types, are encouraged to schedule an appointment to donate. National Preparedness Month is currently in progress – a reminder that lifesaving blood products are crucial for preparedness against all forms of disaster, including home fires and natural calamities like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires. Severe weather can hinder blood collection efforts by leading to the cancellation of blood drives and affecting donors’ capacity to give.

Founders of Ben & Jerry’s, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, on Tuesday issued an open letter to the board of Unilever, the parent company of the Vermont ice cream brand, expressing their concerns regarding the proposed spinoff of several food products, including Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Inc. The Amsterdam-based conglomerate plans to separate its ice cream division, which features Ben & Jerry’s alongside Cornetto and Wall’s, into an independent entity named Magnum Ice Cream Company (MICC) in November. This new company was established following a de-merger that took place at the end of July. Cohen and Greenfield are appealing to Unilever to uphold the essence of Ben & Jerry’s independent board and adhere to the terms of the acquisition agreement established in 2000.
