The Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel
(VT-NDCAP) will hold its final regular meeting of 2024 on Monday
evening, December 9, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. In addition
to receiving updates from NorthStar and Vermont State Agencies
regarding recent Vermont Yankee (VY) decommissioning activities,
the Panel will review and approve its 2024 Annual Report to the
Vermont Legislature and Governor. Elections for 2025 Panel
Officers will also be conducted.
When you think of iconic holiday dishes, what’s the one thing most of
them have in common? Dairy. Not only is dairy an important part of
the holiday table, but in Vermont, it’s the number one agricultural
product in the state, accounting for over two-thirds of our agricultural
economy. For producers, the busiest time of year is happening right
now. Laura Ginsburg with the Vermont Agency of Agriculture says
preparations can start up to a year in advance, and they’re working
around the clock to keep store shelves stocked. According to Sarah
Healy, marketing lead at Cabot, the company ships as much as 40%
more during the holiday weeks compared to the rest of the year, with
30% of their total volume being sold during this time.
U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, questioned the U.S.
postmaster general Thursday about the possibility of moving a postal
service facility from Manchester to Boston. Postmaster General Louis
DeJoy said the consolidation is part of a plan to improve service
nationally, but Hassan argued that the change would not benefit New
Hampshire at all. During a meeting of the Senate Committee on
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Hassan said the time
spent driving back and forth to the facility in Boston would be a waste
and that there would be a massive delay in delivery. The same
argument was made for a proposal to move the USPS collection site in
White River Junction, Vermont, to Hartford, Connecticut. Hassan said
people in the northern part of the state rely on that site.
A missing Vermont man was reportedly found safe in Maine. Police
said Robert Lancraft, 85, of Maidstone, went missing after leaving on
Tuesday to visit family in Maine, and they asked the public for help
finding him. Thursday evening, police in Sanford, Maine, said that
they made contact with Lancraft Thursday morning, and he is no
longer considered missing.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Vermont Statehouse.
People in Montpelier were getting into the holiday spirit on Thursday,
as snow fell and children sang, and the tree was lit at the Statehouse.
The celebration included everything from fire spinning to a team of
horses taking people for rides to a reindeer. This year’s tree had
grown for decades in front of the Barre American Legion, and it will
stand in memory of those who serve all holiday season long.
