A storage shed in the back of Academy school in west Brattleboro was destroyed and a second shed was damaged last evening. Fire Chief Leonard Howard says crews at the scene of the six P M call kept the fire from spreading further . Witnesses told police they saw two juveniles fleeing the scene. The fire is under investigation. The school was not damaged.
A suspicious fire at a storage unit in downtown Brattleboro Saturday is being investigated. Fire Chief Leonard Howard says crews responded to 32 Canal Street just before 9:30 A M, and found a 40 by 20 foot garage well involved with fire. Crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings . No injuries were reported.
If you travel Route 30 between Newfane and Brattleboro, expect more delays this week. Crews are anticipated to complete the final wearing course of pavement on VT 30, finishing on the northern end of the project limits. Multiple crews will continue to install guardrail and conduct berm removal in Newfane. Crews will conduct signage work throughout the project area. There is potential for crews to conduct sidewalk work in Brattleboro as well as pave side roads and driveways. All work is weather-dependent.
There is more paving today in Downtown Brattleboro, in the area of Flat Street, Frost Street, Elm Street and Lynde Place. Frost Street will open to local traffic only, with temporary closures on Elm and Lynde Streets. The Elm Street Parking lot will be closed. Crews will be working between 6:00am and 6:00pm . There will be no on-street parking. Motorists should expect delays in the area and seek alternate routes.The New Hampshire Secretary of State has yet to set a date for the New Hampshire Presidential Primary, but state law requires the Granite State to vote before all others. The primary will most likely fall in January 2024. Several candidates have already filed to get their names on the ballot.

In NFL action on Sunday the New England Patriots lost to the Las Vegas Raiders 21-17. The Raiders sealed the game on a safety sack of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in the endzone late in the game.
The New Your Jets handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season winning 20-14 at home.
The Buffalo Bills scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to come back and defeat the New York Giants 14 -9 on Sunday night football.
In local High School football on Friday, the Brattleboro Bears football team defeated visiting Rutland 21-7 on senior night at Natowich Field. The Bears were powered by their stout defense and running back Noah Perusse, who ran for over 150 yards on the ground as well as two touchdowns. The Bears finish their regular season on the road this coming Friday against the Bulldogs of Burr & Burton.
