A head on crash Friday in Westmoreland claimed the life of a Claremont woman. New Hampshire state ;police say 72 year old Sharon McLaughlin was driving north on Route 12 when her car crossed the center ,ine and hit a vehicle driven by 33 year old Zachary Turpin of Franklin Mass. MaLaughliun was pronounced dead at the scene, Turpin, and a passenger were taken to Cheshire Medical Center for treatment. 


Vermont Congressman Peter Welch voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act , a landmark bill that will combat climate change, cut the cost of prescription drugs, extend Affordable Care Act subsidies, lower the federal deficit, and build a fairer tax code. Throughout his time in Congress, Welch has been an advocate for seniors, working families, and our environment. The Bill is now on it’s way to President Biden.
 
The  Vermont Secretary of State’s office Friday postponed  the canvassing of the 2022 State Senate and County Office Primary Election results due to technology issues as a result of Legislative redistricting.  The Election Management System software contractor continues to work on a solution to be able to produce reports based on the official return of votes submitted by the Clerks. The Secretary of State’s office would like to assure the public that these administrative delays do not impact the 100% confidence we have in the accuracy of the vote totals for all candidates as reported by the Town Clerks.

Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro will hold two community forums, one in-person and one via Zoom, to gather civic input on the future course of the library. Director Starr LaTronica. Says this is a chance to weigh in on what works well at the library, what can be improved and even entertain some big ideas for the future.”The in-person forum will be held Wednesday, August 24th at 7pm in the Main Reading Room at Brooks Memorial Library, 224 Main St. in Brattleboro. The venue is accessible to people in wheelchairs.

 
The Vermont Farm Service Agency has awarded $412,550 to the State of Vermont as a part of the Organic Certification Cost Share Program.  The application is now open for certified operations to apply for these funds.   Reimbursable costs include application fees; inspection fees, including travel costs and per diem for organic inspectors; USDA organic certification costs; user fees/sale assessments; and postage. Application deadline is November 1, 2022.
