Charges have been filed in a January death in Windham Vermont, that was caused by an overdose of the drug Fentanyl. Vermont State Police say 34-year-old Tara Stone is accused of supplying the drug to the victim. Arraignment is scheduled for July 28th.
Two Springfield Vermont men have been arrested for a June first assault with a firearm in Brattleboro. 41-year-old Jonas Rogers and 20-year-old Jaykob Fagans were arrested Wednesday. Rogers was jailed and Fagans was released on conditions. On June first Brattleboro Police responded to a hotel for a report of an assault where the victim was struck in the head with a firearm. The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital. His condition downgraded while enroute to the hospital and he was transported by helicopter to another hospital. He was later released and expected to recover.
Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy is speaking out about national Gun control legislation, saying the second amendment, by itself, is not enough, Leahy says millions of other Americans like himself, lifelong gun owners, are responsible gun owners and honor Americans’ rights to own firearms and choose to own firearms to defend their families, or to hunt — but NOT to commit battlefield-style murders. To most Americans, firearms are valued for defensive purposes, and not for murder and mayhem. The Vermont Senator says he supports commercial sales background checks, a 21-year age limit, and red flag laws which would allow loved ones or law enforcement agencies to petition a court for an order that would temporarily prevent an individual in crisis from accessing firearms.
Governor Phil Scott has signed a bill which contains a comprehensive package of workforce and economic development initiatives first proposed by the Scott Administration and passed by the Legislature this session. The bill invests $84.5 million of both state and federal American Rescue Plan Act funding to address Vermont’s workforce shortage and provide local businesses and municipalities with resources to grow in the years ahead. Scott says the new law bill makes historic investments to help solve some of the state’s biggest challenges. It is an opportunity to change course for the better, to grow the workforce and support communities in their continued recovery and revitalization
Vermont utilities are reminding their customers that help is available for those struggling to pay existing and past bills. Vermonters financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for two grant programs for renters and homeowners to help with overdue utility bills. Customers may be eligible for tens of thousands of dollars through these programs and should apply now before money runs out.
New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services is making an additional $6 million available to childcare providers that received American Rescue Plan Stabilization funds in the fall of 2021. The funds, part of the $42 million funding opportunity recently released by DHHS, will be distributed to 486 childcare programs based on each program’s licensed capacity and could see each program receive as much as $165 per child. Since Spring 2020, the State has distributed more than $100 million in funding directly to childcare providers throughout New Hampshire.

Boosted by the home crowd, the Celtics came out strong in Game 3 of the NBA’S Championship Finals and did not look back on their way to a 116-100 win over Golden State Wednesday night. Jaylen Brown had 27 points and Jayson Tatum had 26 as Game 4 is Friday night, tip-off is at 9pm.
Bobby Dalbec’s double in the 6th inning proved to be the difference as the Red Sox won their 7th straight beating the Angels Wednesday night, 1-0. The teams play again tonight, Nick Pivetta on the mound for Boston, first pitch is at 9:35.
The Twins thumped the Yankees on Wednesday, 8-1. The teams play gain tonight, Gerrit Cole on the mound for New York, first pitch is at 7:40.
