The Vermont State Police are seeking information following reports of a tractor-trailer that struck a power pole in Dummerston and continued on its way. The report was received around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Troopers discovered that the tractor-trailer was turning at the intersection of Middle Road and Houghton Road when it collided with the power pole, causing it to break in half. Middle Road was closed for approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival, police found the vehicle had left the scene, but they located tire tracks that seemed to belong to either a box truck or a tractor-trailer. According to the information provided to state police, investigators suspect the vehicle was white with blue lettering on the truck’s cab. A house in Waitsfield sustained damage, and another is in disrepair following a car crash. According to state police, the incident occurred early Sunday morning when 45-year-old Eric McCarthy from Essex veered off the road, striking one house before crashing through the wall of a second. Troopers charged McCarthy with DUI and negligent operation, and he was subsequently released with a citation to appear in court in January.
On Sunday afternoon at around 3:46 PM, a Trooper from the Vermont State Police, Westminster Barracks, initiated a motor vehicle stop due to a traffic violation observed on Interstate 91 in Westminster. During the interaction with the driver, Lisa Lafoe (47) from Bellows Falls, Troopers noticed signs of impairment. The investigation confirmed that Lafoe had been driving under the influence of drugs. She was arrested and taken to the Westminster Barracks for processing. Lafoe was later released with a citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on January 6th for the charge of DUI Drugs.
Several democratic lawmakers report receiving bomb threats after appearing in a video that called on troops to disobey unlawful orders. That includes New Hampshire Rep. Maggie Goodlander. A spokesperson for Goodlander, along with representatives for Reps. Jason Crow of Colorado, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, and Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania, stated that their district offices were targeted by bomb threats. A spokesperson for Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan confirmed that her home also received a threat. These five lawmakers are among the six who released a video encouraging US troops to disregard illegal orders that may be issued by the Trump administration.
A man from California was apprehended on fugitive and warrant charges at a home on Pine Banks Road. Devon Hardy, 26, was arrested by deputies from the Windham County Sheriff’s Office on November 21st. He had an outstanding arrest warrant from New Hampshire and another active warrant in Vermont. Hardy was processed at the Windham County Sheriff’s Office, where he was held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond for the fugitive charge, along with a $200 bond for the Vermont warrant.
If you are shopping for the holidays in Brattleboro this year, there are several weekends when downtown parking is free. The downtown area announced via social media that visitors can park without charge for the first three weekends in December. Additionally, free parking is available on Friday, Nov. 28, and during the week leading up to Christmas, from Dec. 18th to Dec. 24th. Many businesses will extend their hours throughout the holiday season to serve shoppers, as announced by the group. Most stores will remain open until 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays before Christmas.

The Pats play next Monday Night against the 2-5 NY Giants.
