Shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday, a vehicle collided with a utility pole in the vicinity of Harmonyville Store on Route 30. This incident resulted in the power lines collapsing. Consequently, Route 30 was shut down to all vehicles between Town Highway 35 and East Hill Rd as crews attended to the accident near Depot Rd.

 

The Trump administration is canceling nearly $8 billion in funding for climate-related projects. Only Vermont and New Hampshire, which have Democratic governors, are not affected among the 16 targeted states. Russ Vought, the head of the Office of Management and Budget, announced this on social media, labeling the funds as “green scam funding” that supports the left’s climate agenda. Officials in Vermont report that BETA Technologies and the University of Vermont will lose federal funding. In New Hampshire, Brayton Energy and Ubiquity Solar are also included in the cuts.

 

The Vermont State Police intend to appoint a new director of fair and impartial policing. This decision follows the dismissal of Etan Nasreddin-Longo, a criminal justice reform specialist hired in 2020 to implement bias-free policing reforms. On Wednesday, Vermont Governor Phil Scott stated that he cannot disclose the reasons for Nasreddin-Longo’s termination, but affirmed that Vermont remains dedicated to police reform. Officials have not provided a timeline for filling the position.

 

A 22-year-old man from Westminster was arrested on charges of second-degree aggravated domestic assault and criminal threatening after a collaborative investigation with the Department for Children and Families. Owen Denyou was taken into custody on September 30 and was transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing, as reported by the Vermont State Police. The investigation commenced on September 25 when the Department for Children and Families alerted state police about a family residing on Goat Hill in Westminster. In accordance with department policy regarding domestic violence cases, police did not disclose the victim’s name. Denyou was given conditions of release and appeared earlier today in the Vermont Superior Court – Windham Criminal Division.

 

A substitute teacher in Barre has been cited after police reported that she confessed to bringing narcotics into the classroom. The Barre Town Police Department stated that officers were summoned to the Barre Town Middle and Elementary School on Wednesday due to an adult allegedly under the influence of drugs. Upon arrival, police and EMS discovered that Melissa Martin, 47, a permanent substitute teacher, had admitted to possessing cocaine in her jacket pocket. A student had informed school staff about Martin’s unusual behavior earlier that morning. Police, along with a drug-sniffing dog, searched the classroom and located the suspected cocaine in her jacket, as well as additional cocaine in her backpack. Martin was cited for cocaine possession and reckless endangerment. Authorities indicated that they did not possess any information regarding Martin’s current employment status with the Barre Unified Union School District.

 

The Colrain Fire Department supplied water during a 2nd alarm structure fire on Parsons Road in Whitingham Wednesday evening. The Rowe Fire Department also offered mutual assistance at the site. The fire was reported shortly after 7 p.m., with fire engines leaving the scene around 10 p.m. The building suffered extensive damage as the fire rapidly spread, leading officials to classify it as a ‘total loss.’ Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Boston Red Sox were eliminated from the playoffs after losing 4-0 to the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series. The Yankees advance to face the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS on Saturday, October 4th, at 4:08 PM ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

The Patriots are in Buffalo to take on the Bills on Sunday Night. The bills are undefeated at 4 – 0, while the Pats are 2-2. Kick off Sunday at 8:20pm.

Nascar Cup Series on Sunday it’s the Roval 400 in Charlotte NC,109 Laps,  Race time at 3pm on the USA Network.

The PGA Tour Sanderson Farms Championship continues through October 5th at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.
