Almost 90 school districts and communities in the Granite State will be required to contribute additional funds to cover employee health care costs. SchoolCare, a nonprofit based in New Hampshire, was established to address the challenges of providing health care for school employees statewide. Currently, schools are reporting that they have been asked to assist in bridging the deficit. The Lebanon School District indicated that its assessment amounts to approximately $1,033,216. The district plans to finance this through a mix of current budget funds and its reserves. Employees are reassured that those enrolled in a SchoolCare plan will not face any coverage issues during this process.
Patients in Vermont and northern New York will gain essential local support surrounding kidney transplant surgery through a new partnership between the University of Vermont Health Network and Dartmouth Health. In this arrangement, UVM Medical Center will continue to offer medical care to patients before and after transplantation, while the transplant surgeries will be conducted at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
The superintendent of the Mascenic Regional School District is cancelling all sporting events with teams from Hinsdale, following what she alleges were “deeply unwelcome” comments made during a recent game between the two Monadnock-area boys soccer teams. In a letter this week, Mascenic Superintendent Liz Pogorzelski said that she did not make the decision lightly, but that the suspension of athletic games between the two districts for the remainder of the school year was necessary following a comment made by a member of the Hinsdale community. Pogorzelski did not elaborate on who made the remark, but confirmed the comment referenced a Mascenic student who died of cancer earlier this year. David Ryan, Hinsdale’s superintendent, released a statement in response to Mascenic’s decision, saying he was “dismayed” by the canceled sporting events, and that an investigation found no evidence that an inappropriate comment had been made by Hinsdale students.
