WTSA NEWS FOR FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 26th 2025

A recent drug bust in Brattleboro uncovered unusual evidence that is rarely seen. While it is common to find drugs, cash, and firearms during such operations, this case also included stacks of sports trading cards among the scales and other paraphernalia. Police indicate that these are not the only unconventional forms of currency they encounter. One of the cards is believed to be a Michael Jordan rookie basketball card, which could potentially be valued at thousands of dollars if verified as authentic. Currently, authorities are not disclosing how, if at all, the trading cards relate to the September 13 bust at the Colonial Motel. “It is not beyond the realm of possibility that someone might trade a valuable card for drugs,” stated Brattleboro Police Capt. Adam Petlock.

Members of Vermont’s congressional delegation indicate that a federal government shutdown appears increasingly probable. Although Republicans hold control of the House, Senate, and presidency, they require 60 votes in the Senate to push forward a short-term spending proposal. Democrats assert that any budget legislation must include an extension of health care subsidies and a reduction of certain elements of the significant bill. This situation arises as President Trump has canceled a meeting with leading House and Senate Democrats this week. Senator Peter Welch notes that the threat of a government shutdown may be more challenging to resolve due to the absence of ongoing discussions between the parties.

On Thursday evening, shortly before 9pm, the Vermont State Police were requested to conduct a welfare check at Kenolie Campground in Newfane. The investigation subsequently identified James Foster Jr. (59) from Springfield, Vermont, who allegedly attempted to inflict serious bodily harm or death upon a family member. Foster was later found in the Town of Springfield, where the responding Trooper observed signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the Westminster State Police Barracks for processing. Earlier today, he appeared before the Vermont Superior Court and has been issued a citation to appear at the Vermont Superior Court – Windsor Criminal Division on October 14th. Foster is currently held at the Southern State Correctional Facility on a $500.00 bail.

A man from New Hampshire was arrested for his third DUI after his car was discovered in a ditch on U.S. Route 5, according to Vermont State Police. Mark Krause, 38, from Hinsdale, N.H., was taken into custody at 7:19 a.m. on September 24 after officers responded to reports of a reckless driver on U.S. Route 5 south. Police located Krause’s vehicle in a ditch on U.S. Route 5 close to Canoe Brook Road. Officers assessed Krause and suspected he was driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and taken to the Vermont State Police Westminster Barracks for processing. He was subsequently released with a citation to appear in court on November 25.
