On Tuesday morning September 2nd at 9:30am at the Dover Police Department, 46 Chestnut Street in Dover, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan will host a discussion in Dover to spread awareness about scams and the steps that Granite Staters can take to protect themselves and also discuss public-private partnerships and solutions to this growing problem. The discussion will include members of federal, state, and local law enforcement, representatives from AARP and First Seacoast Bank, and a Granite Stater who was the victim of a scam. The discussion comes as scam losses worldwide crossed $1 trillion last year.

 

Gov. Phil Scott’s new return-to-office plan for state employees will require a minimum of three days in the office starting Dec. 1st. Secretary of Administration Sarah Clark announced the decision in a message to all state employees Thursday afternoon. It will increase interaction among — and across — teams, departments, and agencies,” Clark said. Scott first hinted at the return-to-office initiative earlier this month. The Vermont State Employees’ Association has strongly opposed the move, saying hundreds of state workers have voiced their concerns.

 

A convicted murderer was arrested Thursday in Manchester and a missing 15-year-old from Massachusetts was safely recovered, according to law enforcement officials. Christopher Rodriguez, 40, faces charges including kidnapping a juvenile, endangering the welfare of a child, hindering apprehension or prosecution and obstructing government administration.According to officials, Rodriguez was arrested Thursday afternoon on Route 28 near Wellington Road. The teenager is from North Andover, Massachusetts. Officials say Rodriguez lured the teen as part of the kidnapping. “The juvenile has been safely returned to the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services by the North Andover Police Department.

 

A man from Colchester is in police custody following a road rage incident that escalated into a violent assault, resulting in severe injuries to another man’s eyes, as reported by the Winooski Police Department. Aaron Williams, 44, allegedly overtook the victim’s vehicle on Mallet’s Bay Avenue on Tuesday, abruptly cut in front, and suddenly braked while still in traffic. Both drivers exited their vehicles, and authorities state that Williams struck the other man in the face before seizing his face and forcefully pressing his thumbs into the victim’s eyes. Bushway informed the police that he heard a popping sound, lost his vision, and collapsed. The assault persisted, according to law enforcement, with Bushway being punched multiple times and further attempts made to gouge his eyes. Several bystanders intervened to assist him before the police arrived. Bushway was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he underwent emergency eye surgery. Police reported that he has not yet regained his vision and remains under medical care.

 

Green Mountain Power (GMP) is reminding customers they are invited to drop by GMP’s Open House on Wednesday, September 3, from 5:30-6:30 pm at GMP’s service center in Brattleboro. Refreshments will be served. As part of GMP’s Multi-Year Regulation Plan, GMP holds two customer Open House gatherings per year, each in a different part of the state.  The Brattleboro event is a great way for customers to meet the GMP team, ask questions, share ideas and learn about GMP’s work to increase reliability, safety, and affordability. Customers who cannot make it to the Open House in person are invited to join GMP on Facebook live Thursday at noon, September 4, for a virtual Open House on its Facebook page.
