On Wednesday, Vermont labor officials announced the awarding of two distinct grants to the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) aimed at fostering potential careers in agriculture and construction. One grant will fund a summer training program for ten teenagers, aged 15 to 18, from Winooski and Burlington, who are English language learners and have an interest in conservation and agriculture. The second grant will facilitate the initiation of a pre-apprenticeship program in timber framing, designed to prepare youth for careers in trades and construction over a period of approximately four months.
The Vermont State Police are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect involved in a retail theft at Londonderry Village Market on July 18. Troopers from the Westminster Barracks received the report around 9:01 a.m. Surveillance footage and witness accounts indicate that an unidentified male was present during the incident. Police have released images of the suspect and are asking for help from the public in identifying him. Health Care and Rehabilitation Services (HCRS), the non-profit community mental health agency in Southeastern Vermont, has announced the retirement of Chief Executive Officer George Karabakakis, Ph.D., at the end of June 2026. He has served the agency for over 30 years, including 11 years as CEO. Since assuming the CEO position in 2014, Karabakakis has guided HCRS through significant growth, increasing the agency’s budget from $48 million to over $73 million. He has also expanded access to care, strengthened community partnerships, and fostered a culture of respect, transparency, and inclusion. He is recognized for his steadfast belief in our shared humanity and his dedication to nurturing genuine relationships throughout the organization and the communities it serves.
On Tuesday, shortly after 2pm, Vermont State Police were alerted to a trespassing incident in Rockingham. Following an investigation on Wednesday, Troopers found that 45-year-old Richard Davis had breached his release conditions. He was arrested and taken to the Westminster Barracks, where he appeared in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division on Thursday.
