A Montreal man is being charged with murder in the death of his 9-year-old daughter whose body was found in Northern New York. Luciano Frattolin, 45, told New York State Police that his daughter, Melina, was abducted on Saturday, triggering a statewide Amber Alert. But police say Frattolin’s story was inconsistent, and eventually led them to arrest him. The little girl’s body was found Sunday in a pond in Ticonderoga near the state border with Vermont. Investigators say the pair had been traveling parts of the Northeast for the last week or so and were headed back to Canada when Frattolin allegedly killed his daughter and dumped her body in New York’s North Country. Troopers have not released any information about a motive. Luciano Frattolin is being charged with second-degree murder and concealing a corpse.
A woman from Farmington, N.H. died due to injuries from a multi-vehicle accident on Route 9 at Wellington Drive on Sunday afternoon. New Hampshire State Police reported that a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 22-year-old Arreona Davey, crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, leading to a three-car collision. According to The Reformer, Davey was pronounced dead at the scene. Two individuals from a second vehicle were taken to Cheshire Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and three passengers of a third vehicle did not need medical transport. Route 9 in Chesterfield was closed for about four hours during the investigation. Troopers received assistance from the Spofford Fire Department, Chesterfield Fire Department, Keene fire and police departments, Hinsdale Police Department, and the New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) Crash Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit.
A new state law in New Hampshire that makes it harder to take gunmaker Sig Sauer to court has got its first test before a judge on Monday. The 2-month-old law was created by the Republican-led Legislature in response to mounting lawsuits faced by the Newington-based manufacturer over its popular P320 pistol. The lawsuits say that the gun can go off without the trigger being pulled, an allegation Sig Sauer denies. Sig Sauer, which employs over 2,000 people in New Hampshire, said the gun is safe and the problem is user error. Several large, multi-plaintiff cases filed since 2022 in New Hampshire’s federal court representing nearly 80 people accuse Sig Sauer of defective product design, marketing, and negligence, in addition to lawsuits filed in other states. Many of the plaintiffs are current and former law enforcement officers who say they were wounded by the gun.

A two-alarm fire caused significant damage to Angie’s Pizzeria on Route 10 in Swanzey late Friday night, forcing the longtime local restaurant to close for the foreseeable future. Fire crews were dispatched to 920 West Swanzey Road around 10:10 p.m. after heavy smoke was reported coming from the building, according to Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid. Responding units found flames in the attic with fire showing through the roof. Additional support was called in under a second alarm. Firefighters worked for over two hours to bring the blaze under control, with command declaring the fire knocked down shortly before 11:30 p.m. and under control just after midnight. Crews cleared the scene around 12:30 a.m.
The introduction of a comprehensive new system for Vermont government contracting faced challenges earlier this month when state IT personnel identified “security-related issues” and other bugs during its implementation, as indicated by internal emails reviewed by VTDigger. This problematic launch has left state employees managing daily operations with a contingency plan. The team responsible for implementing VTBuys has advised staff across departments to postpone non-urgent invoices, refrain from engaging with new suppliers if possible, and delay new contracts, according to the emails. These temporary measures necessitate the documentation of various processes that will need to be re-entered once the new system is fully operational. VTBuys is a collaborative initiative between the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services — which oversees the state’s Office of Purchasing and Contracting — and the Vermont Agency of Digital Services, which plays a leading role in state IT projects.
