Despite Vermont attaining an “unaffected” status for bird flu in May, the state persists with its monthly testing program at dairy farms. This testing will continue at least until the end of the year, coinciding with the conclusion of their contract with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Although the transmission of bird flu has diminished, officials anticipate an increase in cases during the fall. Currently, state officials are awaiting direction from the USDA to determine whether the federally funded testing will be necessary in the upcoming year.

A new tool has been introduced to link Vermonters with technology jobs. The Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies, located in Burlington, assists in launching and advising tech-oriented businesses. They indicate that the job market is thriving for both job seekers and employers. However, many individuals find it challenging to connect with suitable positions due to an oversaturated online market filled with fraudulent job listings and out-of-state opportunities. In response, VCET is unveiling a new online job board. This platform will feature a curated selection of Vermont-based tech startups that are actively hiring, with the goal of retaining young talent within the state. “Numerous companies are hiring, ranging from lesser-known startups to larger corporations like Dealer.com and the University of Vermont, all of which are offering job opportunities here,” stated Nicole Eaton, the Marketing and Communications Manager at VCET.
