The Vermont Congressional Delegation, Senator Bernie Sanders Senator Peter Welch and Representative Becca Balint, announced a $5.8 million grant from the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will assist with expansion and modernization improvements to the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport (BTV). The funds are made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The award will support the reconstruction of the airport’s second-floor corridor and the replacement of four jet bridges to increase accessibility and safety for passengers.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today (Friday) announced that the Department of Education reversed its decision to cancel nearly $17 million in federal K-12 COVID-19 funding for Vermont school districts and some $2.5 billion for schools across the country. The administration’s announcement follows a successful lawsuit led by 16 states and the District of Columbia to prevent the department from revoking this important education funding.
The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) once again is warning the public of ongoing scam messages that falsely claim the recipient has an unpaid traffic ticket and is at risk of driver’s license suspension. The DMV did not send these messages and does not send any text or email messages demanding immediate payment.
A program that previously offered free tuition to low-income Vermonters is expanding to provide those services to nearly every household in the state. The 802 Opportunity grant is a program that provides tuition-free college at CCV in partnership with VSAC.
On Thursday at approximately 5:42 PM, a Trooper assigned to the Westminster Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 91 in the town of Vernon after observing a motor vehicle violation. Through investigation, it was determined that the operator, Billie Jo Wilder (49), had committed the offenses of DUI refusal and Possession of Cocaine. Wilder was placed under arrest and was transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing. Wilder was issued a criminal citation to appear before the Windham County Superior Court on July 29th to answer the charges.
A Man drowned in Lake Champlain near South Burlington’s Red Rocks Park. The South Burlington police are seeking information on the man’s identity and events leading up to the drowning. This is the third drowning incident in Vermont within a week There is no evidence of foul play.
