Scott Brown, a Republican and former U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, declared his second campaign on Wednesday for the New Hampshire Senate seat that Democrat Jeanne Shaheen will vacate next year. At 65, Brown was born at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and relocated to Massachusetts as a child. After serving multiple terms in the state Legislature, he won a special election in 2010 for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Edward Kennedy for many years. He was defeated by Democrat Elizabeth Warren in 2012. Subsequently, he moved to New Hampshire and unsuccessfully ran against Shaheen for the Senate in 2014. Shaheen, currently in her third Senate term, announced in March that she would not run for reelection in 2026.

Police report that one individual has died following a prolonged stand-off on Tuesday. Rutland City Police indicated that the situation involved a person they sought to question regarding an ongoing investigation into a previous domestic assault. At approximately 5:45 p.m., the individual shot themselves and subsequently succumbed to their injuries at Rutland Regional Medical Center, as stated by police. A federal judge on Tuesday mandated the Trump administration to release billions of dollars designated for the expansion of electric vehicle chargers across more than a dozen states. U.S. District Judge Tana Lin, located in Washington state, partially approved a preliminary injunction aimed at unblocking funds that were authorized under then-President Joe Biden but had been withheld by the Trump administration earlier this year. Sixteen states, along with the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit against this action, contending that the administration lacked the authority to obstruct the funds that had been approved by Congress. The initiative was intended to distribute $5 billion over five years to various states, with approximately $3.3 billion already accessible. Judge Lin ordered the release of funding for 14 states, including Arizona, California, and New York. However, she declined to grant the preliminary injunction for D.C., Minnesota, and Vermont, stating that they failed to present sufficient evidence of facing “irreparable harm” if the funds were not released immediately.

A man from Keene sustained serious injuries on Sunday evening when his SUV veered off the road and overturned down an embankment along Route 9 near Friedsam Memorial Park, as reported by New Hampshire State Police. Authorities indicated that 47-year-old Jirad Kinney was driving a 2024 Ford Bronco when the vehicle collided with a guardrail and rolled over. Emergency responders reached the scene at approximately 5:40 p.m., and Kinney was subsequently airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for medical care. Officials have not disclosed specifics regarding the nature of his injuries or if there were any passengers involved. On Tuesday, state police confirmed that Kinney has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses pertinent information to reach out to Trooper Jonathan DeLisle at 358-3333.
