Sixteen states have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration regarding its proposal to permit the sale of forced-reset triggers, which enable semiautomatic rifles to fire at a faster rate, and to return previously seized devices to their owners. The lawsuit, announced on Monday, contends that the return of these triggers would breach federal law, endanger residents and law enforcement, and exacerbate gun violence. It has been submitted to federal court in Maryland. The lawsuit is spearheaded by the attorneys general of Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey, with participation from Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and the District of Columbia. All the attorneys general from these states are Democrats, although the office in Hawaii is officially nonpartisan.

Vandusen was found on June 5 and is scheduled to appear in court on July 22.
A 53-year-old man from Putney was arrested on June 5 after evading deputies, which led to a manhunt involving several law enforcement agencies. James R. Rowe was apprehended around 1 p.m. near Faith’s Ford on U.S. Route 5 due to an active arrest warrant for violating his furlough conditions, as reported by the Windham County Sheriff’s Office. His original conviction was for sexual assault against a minor. Deputies tried to reach Rowe after learning of his location, but he fled on foot through an open farm field and into a wooded area by the Connecticut River. Local schools were informed of the police activity during the search. The Windham County Sheriff’s Office received support from the Bellows Falls Police Department, Vermont State Police, Walpole Police Department, and the K-9 Unit of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Office.
The Vermont Cannabis Equity Coalition expressed its views on Tuesday regarding a new bill pending the governor’s approval. Bill H.321 is currently awaiting the governor’s signature. This bill revises certain aspects of the state’s cannabis policy and sales regulations, three years post-legalization. The revisions include changes to police procedures concerning illegal possession and the establishment of a receivership in the event of a store owner’s death. In a statement, the coalition remarked that the bill “does not adequately address the needs of the regulated industry and its customers, the medical cannabis program, its registered patients, and caregivers, nor does it tackle the necessity for justice for those affected by the criminalization of cannabis.” They intend to voice their concerns at a press conference in Burlington.
