The Motor Vehicle Departments in Vermont and New Hampshire are alerting the public to a rise in texting scams. These messages falsely assert that recipients have outstanding traffic tickets and threaten to revoke their driver’s licenses. The DMV clarifies that they do not issue texts or emails requesting payment; such communications are sent via mail. If you receive a text purporting to be from the DMV, avoid clicking on any links or sharing personal information.
The distribution of customer orders at United Natural Foods, which operates a warehouse and offices in Chesterfield, as well as another warehouse in Brattleboro, has faced disruptions due to “unauthorized activity on certain of its Information Technology (IT) systems.” Consequently, UNFI, the largest distributor of natural, organic, and specialty foods in the United States and Canada, has taken several systems offline, which has temporarily affected the Company’s capacity to fulfill and distribute customer orders. This unauthorized activity has led to, and is anticipated to continue causing, temporary interruptions to the Company’s business operations. UNFI is currently evaluating, mitigating, and addressing the unauthorized activity with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts, as stated in an official filing by UNFI to the Security and Exchange Commission. Law enforcement has also been informed. According to bleepingcomputer.com, which covers cybersecurity matters, there were extensive reports on social media following the June 5 attack regarding system shutdowns and employees having their shifts canceled. UNFI has not disclosed the specifics of the attack or confirmed whether any data was stolen from the company’s network, as reported by bleepingcomputer.com. Furthermore, no ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the breach.
