A woman from Putney, who was hit by a DUI driver last month, has succumbed to her injuries, according to police. The Vermont State Police reported that the incident occurred on the morning of May 8th on Main Street in Putney. Jason Ball, 23, from Alsted, New Hampshire, allegedly drove onto the sidewalk, colliding with two women. One of the victims, Diane Clementine, 77, has passed away from her injuries at the UMass Medical Center, while the other victim, Deborah Bozetarnik, 68, sustained only minor injuries. Ball is now facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs resulting in death and gross negligent operation.

On Wednesday, Global Foundries revealed its intention to invest $16 billion to enhance its semiconductor manufacturing and advanced AI initiatives at its facilities in New York and Vermont. Additionally, GF is collaborating with companies such as Apple and SpaceX to facilitate the production of domestically manufactured chips.

On Tuesday June 3rd, 2025, Sara E. Moses was arrested by the Vermont Drug Task Force in Rutland City on four counts of cocaine sale. Her arrest followed a search executed by the Rutland City Police Department, with support from the Vermont State Police Field Force Division and detectives from the Vermont Drug Task Force. This action was part of an investigation into her distribution of crack cocaine in Rutland City, which included several controlled purchases from her beginning in February 2025. Moses was taken to the Vermont State Police Barracks for processing and subsequently received a criminal citation for the four counts. She is scheduled for arraignment on July 7th, 2025, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.

A law passed by Vermont lawmakers last week would cap how much hospitals in Vermont can charge for specialty drugs — medications used to treat cancers and autoimmune conditions, like Crohn’s disease, often administered through injections or infusions. It’s the latest effort to clamp down on the skyrocketing growth of health care costs in the state. Right now, Vermont hospitals have the highest markups in the country for drug prices paid by commercial insurers by far — almost twice the national average, according to a 2024 report from the RAND Corporation.

If you consider speeding in your vehicle, you will eventually face consequences. On Thursday June 4th, 2025, at around 5:21 PM, a Trooper from the Williston Barracks noticed a passenger truck and two motorcycles traveling together at a high speed, heading north on VT Route 104 at Cleary Road in Fairfax. The vehicles were clocked at 83 mph in a 50 mph zone. The Trooper managed to stop the lead vehicle, a GMC Canyon, and identified the driver as Nicholas Santor (35) from Highgate. Santor received a citation to appear at the Franklin County Superior Court on July 29th, 2025, at 8:30 AM to respond to the charge of Excessive Speed. Additionally, he was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for violating Title 23, Section 1081(b) – Basic Rule, which carries a $503 waiver and 2 points.

A newly launched website by the Vermont Secretary of State aims to simplify the voting process. The Vermont Voter Portal integrates previous voter registration pages, enabling Vermonters to register, access information about upcoming elections, and manage their details in a single location. Additionally, town clerks will utilize this portal to maintain voter rolls and report election outcomes. The Secretary of State’s Office will also employ it for processing and certifying election results.
