High waters in the White Mountains resulted in a hiker’s injury and subsequent rescue this weekend. According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, a 51-year-old hiker attempted to cross a brook on the Zealand Trail on Saturday when she lost her footing and injured her leg. Conservation officers, along with the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team, responded to assist the Massachusetts woman back to the trailhead. Officials are cautioning hikers that rainfall similar to that of this past weekend can lead to sudden increases in brook levels.

Vermont legislators were unable to finalize an agreement on the comprehensive education bill, disrupting plans to conclude the legislative session on Friday. In a joint statement released on Saturday by Governor Phil Scott, Speaker Jill Krowinski, and Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Baruth, the lawmakers acknowledged that overhauling the education system would be challenging, indicating that additional time is required to ensure the task is completed effectively. They stated that they will persist in developing a proposal in June that accommodates a bipartisan majority from both the House and Senate.
