Thursday evening, just after 7:30, Brattleboro Police and Fire Departments
responded to a wooded area off Upper Dummerston Road for the report of a

The Brattleboro Police are sending a message to drug dealers in the community
as part of a new campaign to clean up the streets, and it comes in the form of a
yard sign. It’s a sign like the ones you see during election season, but it’s not
about politics. Instead, it’s a direct message to drug dealers. Brattleboro Police
Chief Norma Hardy says the “This Drug House Has Benn Shut Down” signage
came about after multiple tips from the community. One sign was recently
posted in front of an apartment on Putney Road in Brattleboro as police
conducted a search warrant there. The image was posted online and liked more
than 1,000 times, with hundreds of shares and comments, the vast majority
supporting the police.

New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte rejected on Thursday the latest request for a
sentence reduction hearing from Pamela Smart, who is serving life in prison for
orchestrating the murder of her husband by her teenage student in 1990. Smart,
57, was a 22-year-old high school media coordinator when she began an affair
with a 15-year-old boy who later fatally shot her husband, Gregory Smart, in
Derry. The shooter was freed in 2015 after serving a 25-year sentence. Though
Smart denied knowledge of the plot, she was convicted of being an accomplice
to first-degree murder and other crimes and sentenced to life without parole.

New Hampshire hunters have a chance to bag a moose this fall. You can
now enter the 2025 moose hunt lottery, which is expected to issue 33 permits
this year. New Hampshire Fish and Game says over 6,000 people entered the
lottery last year, and winners included hunters from five other states. The nine-
day annual moose hunt starts in October. The lottery fee is $15 for residents
and $25 for nonresidents.

The Department of Homeland Security is putting more than 500 “sanctuary
jurisdictions” across the country on notice that the Trump administration views
them as obstructing immigration enforcement as it attempts to increase
pressure on communities it believes are standing in the way of the president’s
mass deportations agenda. The department on Thursday published a list of the
jurisdictions and said each one will receive formal notification that the
government has deemed them non-compliant and if they’re believed to be in
violation of any federal criminal statutes. The list was published on the
department’s website.
