A medical emergency caused a man to crash his vehicle into the Connecticut River on Wednesday. Just before 10 a.m., first responders in Hinsdale were dispatched for a vehicle in the water on Route 119. The incident occurred near Morse Drive, where the vehicle ended up in the Connecticut River’s setbacks. According to Hinsdale Police, the driver experienced a minor medical issue that resulted in him veering onto the narrow shoulder before entering the river. The Hinsdale Fire Department utilized its ladder truck to assist the man in escaping from the top of his vehicle. The Keene Fire Department also provided support to Hinsdale fire and police at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Route 119 was temporarily closed to facilitate the towing company in retrieving the vehicle from the water.

 

A man from Brandon was discovered deceased at his residence on Saturday morning, having been shot, as reported by the police. The Vermont State Police identified the individual as Brian Bailey, 46, who was found at his home on Champearl Road shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities have labeled the death as suspicious rather than a homicide, indicating that forensic analysis of firearms evidence collected from the scene is still pending, and the scene may have been compromised following Bailey’s death. The medical examiner has also deemed the situation suspicious, but the exact cause of death remains undetermined. No arrests have been made; however, police have stated that this incident appears to be isolated, posing no known threat to the community.

 

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has enacted legislation to support the Vermonters Feeding Vermonters grant program. The Vermont Food Bank utilizes this program to purchase and distribute food sourced from local farmers. This bill creates a grant program within the Agency of Agriculture to sustain the initiative. Legislators indicate that for every dollar invested in Vermont farms, an extra 60 cents benefits the local economy.

 

Researchers in New Hampshire are seeking assistance from landowners to carry out bat counts this summer. Wildlife biologists require volunteers with bats in their barns or outbuildings to participate in the New Hampshire Bat Counts project, which aims to monitor summer bat colonies in the Granite State. Participation is simple, and volunteers are requested to perform at least one count in June and another in July.

 

A 90-year-old woman sustained serious injuries on Tuesday in a collision after authorities reported that she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 89. According to police, the woman entered the interstate incorrectly, traveling south in the northbound lane. She collided with two other vehicles between exits 18 and 17 in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The drivers of the other two cars were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The New Hampshire state police are currently conducting an investigation.

 

A group in Vermont has introduced a new application aimed at facilitating language translation. The Vermont Language Justice Project seeks to support refugees, immigrants, and migrants in adjusting to everyday life in the Green Mountain State. In recent years, they have created thousands of public videos. Now, they offer a new free app that enables refugees, migrants, and individuals who speak languages other than English to conveniently access public service videos in their native languages.
