As many seek outdoor activities, the Vermont Department of Public Safety advises caution for boaters and others. With water temperatures ranging from 40 to 50 degrees, the risks of drowning and hypothermia are significant. If venturing out, it is recommended to dress in layers, wear a properly fitted life jacket over your coat, bring extra clothing and gear, and inform someone of your plans and expected return time.
