Two men were arrested on Friday night after deputies discovered cocaine and fentanyl in their possession at a local business. Terry A. Parson, 41, from Putney, faces four counts of violating release conditions and possession of less than 2.5 grams of cocaine. Robert P. Brown, 37, from Brattleboro, is charged with possession of fentanyl and cocaine under the same weight limit. Windham County Sheriff’s deputies found Parson in a vehicle on U.S. Route 5 around 9:50 p.m., which had been seen in Putney earlier. He was arrested for breaching his court-ordered curfew and was found with cocaine. Brown, also in the vehicle, had suspected cocaine and fentanyl. Both were taken to the Windham County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Parson was held on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court today on March 24th 2025, while Brown received a citation for a court appearance on April 29. Parson was later transferred to the Southern State Correctional Facility.

 

On Thursday, Vermont’s LGBTQ+ community urged lawmakers to ensure their safety during Outright Vermont’s 2025 Leadership Day, themed “protect our rights.” The event emphasized the need to enhance anti-discrimination protections and establish a sanctuary school policy for student safety. Advocates stressed the urgency of addressing violence against youth and gathered handwritten letters from young people statewide to deliver to representatives in each district.

 

Three new Brattleboro selectboard members were sworn in Monday night , and  their first task will be taking a new look at next year’s town budget . Representative town meeting members rejected the budget proposal  by a 76 to 57 vote, preferring instead to have revisions done by the newly elected board . The reorganization meeting took place Monday 3/24/25 and can be seen on Brattleboro Community TV.

 

New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen has announced she will not seek re-election in 2026, marking the end of her 35-year public service career. At 78, she is the first woman to serve as both governor and U.S. Senator in the state. As she concludes her tenure, Shaheen emphasizes that addressing the daily concerns of Granite Staters and focusing on foreign policy, including the war in Ukraine, will remain her priorities. She holds a prominent position as the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

 

Firefighters responded to a significant multi-alarm fire at a residential building on 154 South Street in Milford, NH, affecting multiple families. The Milford Fire Department reported assistance from neighboring towns, with the fire chief noting it as one of the largest incidents in recent years. Many onlookers gathered as crews battled the flames and heavy smoke. A woman at the scene recounted rescuing several animals, including a snake, three cats, two birds, two chinchillas, a bearded dragon, and a dog. After several hours, officials announced the fire was under control and are investigating the cause of the fire, but it’s believed to have started on the exterior of the building. The building is old and was not well kept.

 

The owner of DCI Furniture in New Hampshire, Henry Kober, expressed concerns about his company’s financial health due to tariffs on metal imports from Canada. While the company sources its wood locally, the rising costs of metal, essential for products like bed springs, could affect pricing. DCI’s primary contract involves supplying dormitory furniture and appliances to military bases worldwide. Kober noted that tariffs, imposed by President Trump to address issues with Canada and Mexico, may also raise costs for these products.
