The annual two-day Harris Hill Ski Jump competition in Brattleboro
kicks off on Saturday. Harris Hill is the only Olympic-sized ski jump in
New England and on Saturday, up to 40 of the world’s up-and-coming
jumpers will take it for a ride. The list of attendees is determined by
the junior world championship held in Lake Placid. There will be
music, bonfires, food and drinks. Gates open at 10 a.m. and skiers
start jumping around noon.
The New Hampshire DMV is warning residents about a scam aimed at
stealing people’s personal information. The department has received
reports of text messages appearing to be from an official New
Hampshire state email address asking for more contact details. The
messages appear to be from the DMV and claim the recipients’
profiles aren’t complete. People are prompted to click a link to update
their contact details. The link leads to a page with the state’s official
logo, asking for a name and state ID number. But officials say the page
and message are both fake. The DMV says they never request
people’s personal information by text. If you get a text message
claiming to be from the New Hampshire DMV, don’t submit any
personal information and report the message to the Consumer
Protection Hotline at the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau
of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office at 603-271-3641.
Hundreds of farmers, producers and others interested in Vermont
agriculture will gather this weekend to keep organic food on your
table. The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont will
hold its 43rd annual Winter Conference in Burlington on Saturday and
Sunday. It’s a chance for farmers, producers and policymakers to
exchange knowledge about the industry. Organizers say this year’s
theme of “grow together” helps address the increasing challenges of
farming with land access barriers and corporate consolidation.
On Tuesday, a little before 10am, a Vermont State Police trooper
conducted a traffic stop after observing a motor vehicle violation on
U.S. Route 5 in the town of Dummerston. While interacting with the
driver, identified as Kimberly Caviola, 39, of Brattleboro, troopers
detected signs of impairment. Subsequent investigation found that
Caviola was driving under the influence of drugs. Caviola was placed
under arrest and brought to the Westminster Barracks for processing.
She was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court
Windham Criminal Division on March 11.
A group protested Elon Musk’s government-cutting efforts outside the
state’s only Tesla showroom in South Burlington Thursday. Organizers
say they’re taking a stand against the world’s richest man’s
“dismantling of our democracy.” “We want our democracy back. We
don’t want un-elected officials and wealthy people calling the shots,”
said Patrick Standen, a protester from Burlington. It comes as
Vermont on Thursday signed onto another in a string of multi-state
lawsuits, saying the president violated the Constitution by creating
the Department of Government Efficiency without congressional
approval.
