A school lockdown in Jaffery   New Hampshire Thursday . School superintendent Reuben Duncan, said  a report was made to the Conant Middle High School administration that a 14-year old male student was in possession of a knife. He was immediately escorted to the office. While in the office, he refused to cooperate with the administration and participate in a search of his belongings. He became aggressive, grabbed the knife and his backpack, and ran out of the office area and out of the school. The school was immediately placed in lockdown until it was determined he waa not inside.  The 14-year-old student and his parent later turned himself in at the Jaffrey Police Station . The school has taken immediate action, and the teen will not be in school for the foreseeable future. 

 

Vermont state police have released  a picture of the person allegedly responsible for the the theft of a donation jar at the Guilford Welcome Center last Sunday . The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 6’00 tall, slim build wearing a blue baseball cap.  The suspect allegedly fled the scene on foot to a dark colored sedan that was parked on Broad Brook Road in Guilford, Vermont. If anyone can identify the individual in the photograph, please contact Trooper Marie Beland at (802)722-4600

Enrollment numbers are showing signs of improvement at Vermont State University. VTSU officials report that total university enrollment is trending at about 5% over last year, including a 14% increase in the number of new students compared to fall 2023, many of them online students. It comes after the Vermont State College System merged last summer to form VTSU, slashing programs and jobs, in an effort to address millions in debt and declining enrollment. 

Vermont Senator Peter Welch , a member of the Senate Judiciary and Senate Rules Committees,  has   applauded the Departments of Justice, Treasury, State and FBI’s actions to curtail Russian election influence efforts including sanctions, charges against Russian nationals, and the indictment of two Russian state-owned media network employees who were facilitating online disinformation operations. Welch says “Vladimir Putin’s perennial goal to influence America’s elections will fail. And the justice department’s actions will help defend  democracy in a bold and productive way.  The Vermont senator is confident  the 2024 election will be safe and secure, despite Russia’s efforts. 

 Gasoline  prices in Vermont are down a cent in the past week, to an average of  $3.33 per gallon. Prices in Vermont ranged from 2 dollars 83 cents to three dollars 49 cents. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 4 and a half cents cents per gallon in the last week , to bean average of 3 -28. The national average is down 18 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands is 49 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
