Members of Vermont Governor Phil Scott’s administration say creating additional housing remains a priority for the state. Commerce Secretary Lindsay Kurrle and Housing Commissioner Alex Farrell, both say “the dire need for more housing,” includes mobile homes. They say more housing across the board would reduce the affordable housing problem, help solve the workforce shortage and ease societal issues, including homelessness. . A Housing Needs Assessment shows Vermont will need between 24 and 36 thousand new housing units in the next 5 years. 

Vermont Senator Peter Welch says it’s  a must  to secure additional federal disaster recovery funding for the state. Welch says building resilience pays for itself,  as every single dollar that we spend on resilience saves about $318 down the road. That requires two things from the federal government: one–funding…so that local authorities can make those decisions. And two–it means flexibility. 

The Vermont Nature conservancy  has named Elise Barry as its new deputy director of conservation programs. Barry has over 10 years’ experience in the sustainability space and deep expertise in strategy, action-oriented implementation, partnership facilitation, and inclusive leadership. For the last five years, she has advised senior NGO, government and business leaders on climate, sustainability and conservation strategy as a consultant with McKinsey & Co.’s sustainability practice.

 The Vermont fish and Wildlife department has applications available on its website for permits to hunt coyotes with dogs and that the deadline to apply is October 15th.   Any person hunting, pursuing or harvesting a coyote with the aid of dogs must hold a Vermont hunting license and use only dogs registered with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.  The season for hunting coyotes with dogs is December 15 through March 31, and the coyote dog training season is June firs1 through September 15.

Vermont Olympic rugby sensation Ilona Maher has been picked for the new season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The bronze medal-winning Maher, who became a social media sensation during the Paris Olympics for her funny TikToks and body positivity content, will be on the show which premieres September 17 on ABC.
