A coalition of New England states will receive nearly $400 million in federal funding to enhance clean energy and battery storage technology in the region. The U.S. Department of Energy announced today that the Power Up New England proposal has been awarded up to $389 million through its Grid Innovation Program. This proposal was put forth by energy officials from Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Maria Robinson, director of the Grid Deployment Office at DOE, stated that the funded projects will make “transformational investments” to improve grid reliability, increase renewable resource availability, and alleviate energy costs across New England.
New Hampshire authorities are issuing warnings due to a recent increase in stolen Kia and Hyundai vehicles, a trend observed nationwide. Attorney General John Formella notes that New Hampshire is affected as well. The NH Consumer Insight Newsletter reports that six of the ten most commonly stolen vehicles in the U.S. are Kias and Hyundais, attributed to social media content demonstrating how to steal these cars, as many lack engine immobilizers. Owners of affected models are advised to contact their local dealership for potential upgrades.

The owner of a West Pawlet farm was cited for allegedly assaulting a migrant farmworker and a juvenile. Vermont State Police say it happened July 3 at Deer Flats Farm owned by Richard Hulett, who is
also a member of the town Select Board. Investigators say Hulett was told there was a drug dealing attempt on the property. That led to an argument, and they say that’s when Hulett, 45, assaulted Ulver Perez-
Roblero, 30. Migrant Justice, which advocates for migrant farmworkers, says Perez-Roblero’s 15-year-old nephew was also assaulted by Hulett during the incident. Hulett was cited on two simple assault charges and is due in court on Sept. 23rd.
