Brattleboro police Sunday morning arrested  a  man who was agitated, in possession of weapons and was acting in a threatening manner at a health care facility. Officers arrived on scene and were successfully able to deescalate the subject and remove the weapons from him. The weapons included multiple knives, a machete and a hatchet. The subject was taken into temporary custody and transported to a hospital for further evaluation. There were no injuries during the incident.

Vermont’s congressional delegation is asking President Biden
to quickly approve the Major Disaster Declaration request issued Saturday by Governor Phil Scott. The declaration would bring critical federal resources to Vermont to help individuals and communities recover after devastating flooding this summer.
The Delegation’s letter also calls on Biden to expedite all outstanding Public Assistance reimbursements, Hazard Mitigation projects, and buyouts from 2023 disasters.
Vermont has experienced 15 federally declared natural disasters since 2014, including three floods in 2023 alone.
Work on a new bridge between Brattleboro and Hinsdale continues to progress. Multiple concrete placements are scheduled for the next 3 weeks for the bridge approach from Vermont 142 . A placement for sidewalk and curb is scheduled for Monday, and the Vermont approach slab is to be placed Wednesday. Both will require multiple truckloads of concrete.  Installation of asphalt curb and the application of pavement markings on New Hampshire 119 are now scheduled for this week. Once completed, a new traffic pattern will be established in this location and motorists should be vigilant in the area. Completion is scheduled for November.

 For the tenth consecutive year, farmers across Vermont will open their barn doors and garden gates to welcome the public for a behind the-scenes look at Vermont’s vibrant working landscapes during Vermont Open Farm Week.  Vermont Open Farm Week started in 2014 as “CSA Open Farm day. . Now, for its 10th Anniversary,  49 farms and  157 events are featured across the state. The celebration offers visitors a backstage pass to learn more about local food origins, authentic agritourism experiences, and the chance to build relationships with Vermont farmers and artisans.

The Townshend common was alive with support for Grace Cottage Hospital , during the 74th Fair Day Saturday . New hospital president Olivia Sweetnam applauded the  turnout.

An auction, bingo and numerous sales were part of the day’s events.  Proceeds will be used to support capital projects.
