WTSA NEWS FOR FRIDAY JUNE 28th 2024

The Colchester Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating Andrew Brace, a St. Albans man who allegedly injured an officer. Brace, the male driver of a stolen vehicle, reversed the car and dragged an officer for approximately 50 feet before fleeing the scene. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Brace is driving a blue Genesis G80 with Colorado license plate D0UT58. He may face charges of aggravated assault, eluding an officer, and resisting arrest. If you have any information, please contact the department at 802-264-5555.

A former New Hampshire teacher is suing the Department of Education, alleging improper revocation of her teaching license. The lawsuit claims that the department did not conduct a fair investigation and denied her the opportunity to present her case. It also accuses commissioner Frank Edelblut of making misleading comments about the teacher’s alleged actions. The lawsuit argues that the department was aware the student involved was an adult and that laws regarding minors seeking abortion care did not apply. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said they’re reviewing the complaint and will respond in due course. A pre-hearing conference has been scheduled for July 16.

Nicolelus Sanborn, an inmate from Vermont who had previously been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill a Burlington police officer, is now facing additional charges for attempting to escape. On June 17, Vermont State Police reported that Sanborn was taken to Northwestern Medical Center for a medical issue while under escort. However, after the visit, Sanborn managed to open the improperly secured door of the transport van and flee, despite being fully restrained with handcuffs and shackles. Sanborn only made it a short distance of about 20 feet before falling, and correctional officers quickly apprehended him and returned him to the prison. Sanborn has been in custody since June 10 following his arrest by the Burlington Police Department.

Police in New Hampshire reported that out-of-state crime rings are targeting high-end muscle cars, particularly Dodge Hellcats, due to their power and value. Thieves are scouring websites of Dodge dealerships and smaller used car dealerships to locate these vehicles. Recently, Nelshon Pires, 19, of Brockton, Massachusetts, was arrested for attempting to steal a Hellcat valued at $108,000.  They literally jumped on the car, broke the sunroof and just jumped right down into the car, police said. Pires was released on bail and is due back in court next month. He is facing several charges, including possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety noted that Dodge Charger models, including those with Hellcat engines, are frequently stolen nationwide for their powerful engines and high value. Dodge’s decision to discontinue the Hellcat is expected to further drive up their worth.

Vermont has agreed to pay $175,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the ACLU on behalf of Gregory Bombard, who was charged with a crime for giving a state trooper the middle finger in 2018. Trooper Jay Riggen stopped Bombard’s vehicle in St. Albans on Feb. 9, 2018, leading to an unnecessary traffic stop and retaliatory arrest. His car was towed,  was jailed for over an hour and cited to criminal court. Bombard’s First Amendment rights were violated, but the charge of disorderly conduct was eventually dismissed.
