A fatal stabbing incident occurred in Brattleboro, resulting in the death of one individual. Brattleboro Police responded to a call at 77 Flat Street just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, emergency medical services attempted to save the victim’s life, but unfortunately, the victim passed away after being taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Lavadus Williams from Brattleboro, has been taken into custody and charged with Second-Degree Murder. Williams is currently being processed at the Brattleboro Police Department and is set to appear in Windham County Superior Court later today.
Police seek public assistance in locating a hit-and-run suspect involved in an incident on June 19 at 10:15 a.m. on North Hinsdale Road. The suspect was driving a small white Chevy pickup truck with a chrome toolbox in the bed. The truck sustained front-end damage on the driver’s side and fled towards Hinsdale. On Monday, Sen. Peter Welch will join Amtrak and the community for a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction on a new Brattleboro Station. This station will have Vermont’s first-ever level platform, measuring 345 feet long and 48 inches above the rail. It will also feature a new electric snow melt system, lighting, railings, detectable warning edge, and signage. The station will include a waiting room with 36 fixed seats, an ADA-accessible single-occupant restroom, and a covered outdoor waiting area with benches. Parking lot improvements will include accessible parking spaces and a bike shelter. Travelers will also be welcomed by an art installation from Brattleboro Words Trail.

Maryann Manning, a Wolcott resident, has pleaded guilty to the theft of $119,000 in Social Security benefit payments. Manning, who is 63 years old, admitted in federal court in Burlington on Thursday to fraudulently converting tens of thousands of dollars in Social Security benefit payments. Records show that Manning’s brother, a recipient of disability insurance benefit payments, passed away in October 2015. However, authorities claim that Manning continued to receive the benefits by withdrawing money from his accounts. Manning could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and fines of $250,000 at her sentencing.
Nine Vermont specialty foods vendors will showcase their products at the Vermont pavilion during the summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.
