Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend is receiving a significant boost to construct a new family health clinic. Following a 50% increase in visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility is expanding its footprint. Congresswoman Becca Balint presented $1.5 million in congressionally directed spending to Grace Cottage Family Health and Hospital on Monday. The funds will be utilized to construct a new 23,000-square-foot family health clinic on the campus. Dr. George Terwilliger, the hospital’s chief medical officer, emphasized the importance of providing quality primary care. While the medical center has secured approximately $8 million for the project, additional fundraising efforts are still needed. Hospital officials view this as an investment in the southern Vermont region as a whole.
The state of Vermont is currently accepting grant applications to provide greater access to state parks for its residents. In 2016, the nonprofit organization Vermont Parks Forever established the Park Access Fund Grant. This grant aims to offer free park visits to various organizations throughout the state, specifically targeting individuals with disabilities, children in foster care, and others who may face difficulties in accessing the parks. The ultimate objective of Vermont Parks Forever is to eliminate barriers and enable more individuals to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors. Through this initiative, Vermont Parks Forever is providing over 10,000 complimentary park days. The deadline for submitting applications is April 5th.
