A two-story home was destroyed Saturday night in a fire that presented challenges for firefighters due to the storm. “No one was here,” Fire Chief Rick Cooper said. “They all left because the power was out.” No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation. When firefighters arrived at 349 Old Chesterfield Road in Chesterfield, they observed the building was fully involved. Trucks from the Walpole and Westmoreland departments had to turn around and take another route because Route 63 had a tree across the road that caused a closure, Cooper said. Despite road challenges, no trucks were damaged. The call came in at just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Crews stayed until 1 a.m. Sunday then returned at about 7 a.m. to put out some hot spots. Cooper said he’s meeting with a state fire marshal to determine what happened.

Lavadus Williams was arrested for a Vermont arrest warrant and charged with Violating a Protection Order. He was initially held on $500 bail, which he posted and was released. He appeared in Windham County Superior Court on Sunday for arraignment on both charges.
