Vermont Route 142 has reopened to traffic. Ongoing approach work for the new bridge over the Connecticut River for Vermont/New Hampshire Route 119 will require alternating traffic patterns along VT 142 in the future and delays in this area will be encountered off and on until the projected completion of the bridge in 2024. The location of construction is approximately 1000 feet south of the current intersection of VT 142 and VT/NH 119 and continues to the intersection with Royal Road. Local traffic is advised to watch for construction vehicles along the detour routes covering and removing signs and reconfiguring temporary traffic control measures to their permanent configurations.
Two Windham County projects have received funding from a Vermont Community Recovery and Revitalization Grant. Community House in Brattleboro received $147,000 to help establish a high school to further the education of the currently served population of K-8th grade children with trauma and emotional disturbances. The Windham Windsor Housing Trust was given $500,000 for an affordable housing project on Alice Holway Drive in Putney. The project will include 25 new units to the community, and 100% of the units will be affordable. The two-building site will feature 13 one bedroom and 12 two-bedroom apartments.
Vermont U S Senator Peter Welch is applauding President Biden’s nomination of Vermonter Michael Whitaker, to lead the Federal Aviation Administration. Welch says Whitaker has an impressive career in aviation leadership, and his decades spent in the skies will be an asset to the Federal Aviation Administration. Welch is a member of the Senate Commerce committee.
The Vermont Department of Economic Development is receiving a $249,000 grant for its 2024 fiscal year to assist small businesses throughout the state export goods and services. The grant is part of the Small Business Administration’s State Trade Expansion Program, which supports small businesses to compete globally by offsetting costs incurred by export related activities, including participating in foreign trade missions, designing international marketing campaigns, participating in export trade show exhibits, attending training workshops and other important means of engagement. The Vermont International Trade Division oversees and manages the grant.
New Hampshire healthcare providers are reminding Granite Staters that the fall and winter respiratory illness season is quickly approaching and steps can be taken now and in the coming weeks to protect yourself and loved ones. All New Hampshire residents are encouraged to talk to their healthcare provider about receiving updated immunizations to protect them against Respiratory Syncytial Virus influenza, and the COVID-19 virus, all of which can cause serious illness. Two new RSV vaccines are available for adults 60 years of age and older.
Vermont’s archery deer hunting season begins October 1st and ends November 10th and commences again November 27th through December 15th. A hunter may take up to four deer in Vermont’s two-part archery season if they do not shoot any deer in the other deer seasons. The purchase of an archery deer license and tag is required for each deer. No more than one of the deer taken during archery season may be a legal buck if no buck is taken in the other deer seasons. Antlerless deer hunting is allowed during archery season statewide this year.
