A Windham County Sheriff’s deputy has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into the discharge of a department firearm in their Bellows Falls residence while off-duty. No one was injured in the incident. Windham County Sheriff Mark Anderson says the investigation’s intent is to make determinations based on the sheriff’s policies and procedures.
On Friday, Town Manager Yoshi Manale submitted his resignation, effective June third. He’d been on the job just over five months, but said he wished to return to a managerial role in a larger community. Brattleboro select board chair Ian Goodnow says the board us confident in Assistant Town Manager Patrick Moreland stepping up in the interim. Goodnow says the search for a new Town Manager is a top priority.
The Federal Nuclear Waste Policy Committee of the Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel Meets today at noon. This meeting will be conducted primarily as a webcast and teleconference. However, in accordance with Vermont Open Meeting Law, 118 Elliot Street in Brattleboro
will be available for those wishing to attend this meeting in-person. The Committee will discuss next steps in assessing current Federal nuclear waste policies. Representatives from Holtec International will discuss the company’s plans for long-term monitoring and aging management of spent fuel storage systems, such as those currently used at the Vermont Yankee site.
The closure of the Depot Road Arch Bridge over Rock River is anticipated to continue through the fall. Detour signs and message boards are in place. The contractor, Renaud Brothers, poured the last section of the south abutment footing last week. This week they will set the pre-cast pieces of the arch for the new bridge.
New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen is applauding passage of the latest Ukraine aid package. Shaheen says the 40-billion-dollar package will help millions of Ukrainians in crisis by bolstering their military capabilities and providing supplies to respond to the ongoing humanitarian emergency. The overwhelming bipartisan consensus in Congress around this nearly $40 billion assistance package illustrates the U.S. is committed to supporting Ukrainians and holding the Kremlin to account for its campaign of aggression. Shaheen is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services committee.
A warning tonight from Claremont Police about a deadly batch of fentanyl in their area. Police say the fentanyl being distributed in Claremont and surrounding towns has caused five overdoses since Friday. Officers say due to the quick rescue response there have been no fatalities. The fentanyl has been found not only in heroin, but police say its also laced in marijuana. Packages sometimes bear a unique scorpion stamp. Police in Claremont said if you find the fentanyl, call them.

Franchy Cordero slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Red Sox a 8-4 win over Seattle on Sunday, and sweep their series. The Red Sox have won 5-straight. The Red Sox have today off, before beginning a series with the White Sox in Chicago on Tuesday.
The White Sox beat the Yankees on Sunday, 3-1. The Yankees host Baltimore tonight, Gerrit Cole on the mound for New York, first pitch is at 7:05.
Game 4 between the Heat and Celtics is tonight. Miami leads the series 2 games to1, tip-off is at 8:30.
