56 new covid 19 cases in Vermont Sunday, and 303 over the weekend. There was just One new covid positive test in Windham County. New Hampshire reported two deaths and 76 new covid 19 cases Sunday, with 270 new covid positive tests over the weekend. There was one death and 23 new positive covid tests in Cheshire County. Massachusetts reported three deaths and 2,430 new covid 19 cases, with 30 covid positive tests in Franklin County.
Three Springfield mass residents were arrested on Drug charges over the weekend, Vermont state police say 28-year-old Sheldon Torres. 32-year-old Brittany Lafleche, and 27-year- old Mathew Ponce were taken into custody during a Friday traffic stop on interstate 91 in Westminster. All three were ordered to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Windham County, on May 3rd, Torres was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vermont, on a federal arrest warrant.
The Hinsdale School Board has announced the hiring of John Barth as the Principal of the Hinsdale Middle & High School. Beginning July first, Barth will replace Ann Freitag who retires at the end of the current school year. Barth has over 29 years of experience as a Principal/Assistant Principal in the Monadnock area. Barth lives in Richmond, NH, with his family.
Governor Phil Scott announced that Jenney Samuelson and Todd Daloz have been named secretary and deputy secretary of the Agency of Human Services. Samuelson was appointed deputy secretary of AHS by Governor Scott in June of 2020 and has served as interim secretary since January, following the retirement of Secretary Mike Smith. Deputy Secretary Daloz previously served as AHS general counsel, overseeing legal affairs for the Agency and working closely with the AHS commissioners and their senior staff.
The Vermont Museum of Natural History in Marlboro has won a 62 thousand dollars state grant. The money will be used for designing and building a trail network and community outdoor recreation & education center by expanded parking, kiosks and trail signage, and outdoor gear rentals. The center will be a space for the museum and other local organizations to offer nature-based programming.
The Windham Southeast School Board meets tonight at 6 in the Cusick conference room at the Windham Regional Career Center and by zoom. The agenda lists a brief public comment period, and a pair of closed dollar sessions.
