Area residents say the mud patches on gravel roads are far worse than previous years and they’re getting stuck in the mud. Since Wednesday, local social media groups have been full of alerts about roads to avoid. Brattleboro puts out a daily list of gravel roads that are in fair or poor shape Abbot Road is listed as poor and several others are in fair shape.

Brattleboro town meeting members Saturday rejected an attempted half million dollar cut and approved a 19.3-million dollar municipal budget for next year. An attempt to raise the level of budget support for human service programs was narrowly rejected. The daylong meeting took place via zoom, with online voting for all questions.

Brattleboro select board members tonight hold a reorganizational meeting. According to the town charter all the select board terms begin after the representative meeting. The session takes place at the select board meeting room and via zoom at 6:15. You can watch on b c t v.

Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan says the number of internet crimes against children were up in 2021. Statistics released Friday by Donovan’s office show the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received 452 CyberTips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children last year, up from 376 tips in 2020.  The 2021 tips led to 42 prosecutions.  The task force investigates cases of child sexual exploitation occurring over the internet, including the production and online sharing of child sexual abuse materials, also referred to as child pornography.

The Vermont State Police has collected more than 100 body-armor vests donated by law-enforcement agencies and members of the public since announcing the initiative last week. More vests are expected to arrive before the donation deadline of Wednesday, March 23. The used and expired vests rated level III or higher still offer protection from gunfire. The Vermont State Police will coordinate sending the donated body armor to military units in Ukraine.

Vermont Everyone Eats, the COVID-19 recovery program that provides Vermonters affected by COVID with prepared meals made by Vermont restaurants using locally grown and produced ingredients, will continue through July 1ST. The program had previously been set to end on March 31st but will now continue due to FEMA’s 100% cost Since August 2020, Vermont Everyone Eats has provided over 2.25 million meals statewide, entirely paid for with nearly $30 million of Federal CARES Act and FEMA funding. More than 260 Vermont restaurants have participated. Over 37% of meal ingredients from nearly 300 Vermont farms and food producers have been used by restaurants as part of a local purchasing requirement that spreads the economic benefit as widely as possible. share being extended for existing COVID-19 relief programs.
